Missed opportunities in Trek?

Hey Missy

Captain
Captain
What do you wish the writers could have done, or what they would have rather done (in some cases where they came up with other ideas in which to take the shows)?
Personally, I'd have liked to see the Voyager writers take on the "Silver Blood" cliffhanger they had planned for season 3... but instead used it for season 4, as I can't imagine a world without Scorpion I & II.

Romulan in DS9, Harry/7 relationsip, Enterprise shouldn't have waited till certain cancellation to lay the groundwork for TOS, the Voyager time cop idea, DS9-have section 31 or some other federation representive seek to destroy the prophets. I dunno

Given that Trek always has had the name of being progressive, I think it's a pity it never (to my knowledge at least) portrayed a homosexual couple. I mean, just in the background for some characters as a natural given, part of the Star trek universe, without too much attention drawn to it, but neither covered up.

Watch Star Trek Beyond. Decades behind the rest of the world, but we did it!

GENERATIONS should have been "Yesterday's Enterprise" with Kirk in command of the 1701-B.
The 1701-D Galaxy Class [ if it had to be destroyed] should have been replaced by a 1701-E Galaxy Class. Picard film's should have been Galaxy Class as Kirk's films were always Refit Constitution Class starships.

I still kinda wish that Saavik had been the traitor in ST VI, not Valeris, as originally intended.

That would have been a lot more dramatic.

And, yeah, I would have liked to have seen Uhura in one of the latter-day shows or movies, too.

And keep Saavik half Romulan. I posted it in another thread but it would have been a great tie in to Spocks later dedication to reunification - showing the "origins" of his belief that the two cultures could be united in one, even if Saavik did eventually betray him. It would also give more meaningful Romulan participation in the assassination plots. As it stands they're just said to be a part of them, but take no action.

I thought Year of Hell was originally planned to finish off season 3, and that the episode Before and After was supposed to be setting that up?

There should have been a crewmember on NX-01 named Stiles that later served during the Romulan war, one of the family members that 1701's Lt. Stiles mentions in Balance of Terror.

We should have seen at least one Constitution class ship in TNG (Scotty's holodeck Enterprise bridge in Relics doesn't count). There were plenty of Mirandas still in service in the 24th century, a design that was obviously related to/derived from the Constitutions, and that was put into service around the same time. We know at least one Connie was still in existence during TNG, as Picard mentions having seen one in the Starfleet museum.

I could be wrong and there are brief moments it's brought up but I was always a little curious bout any survivors of Wolf 359 feelings towards Picards much like Sisko did back in Emissary. Now granted Sisko did in a sense got over it and he and Picard left in better terms but I always wondered...How would an ensign react?

Like imagine a TNG episode where a new guy comes in, who seems to have a chip on his shoulder towards Picard. The senior crew wonder what his deal is...Until they found out he fought in Wolf 359. Hence they try to help this guy in anyway they can. It can end on a hopeful note that this guy can recover the trauma...Or end badly that will just add Picard more grief over his inability to resist his assimilation that contributes to his boiling point during First Contact.

Like Robert Picard said, Jean-Luc will have to live with that event for a long time before he can truly heal from it.

I would have loved to see their original idea for Enterprise. No Temporal Cold War and the Suliban are actually agents for the Romulans. Spend the first season on and near Earth as the NX-01 is completed. Actually show the Earth-Romulan War in later seasons. Actually go 7 seasons.

Jean-Luc will have to live with that event for a long time before he can truly heal from it.

The Stargazer was allegedly supposed to be a Constitution class ship, so the story goes the actors even said Constitution while filming. But then higher-ups at Paramount overruled this and said they weren't going to allow a Constitution class ship on the show, resulting in the lines being re-dubbed to "Constellation class." Ironically, the model of the Constellation class ship in Picard's ready room since Farpoint was changed to a Constitution model for a few season 1 episodes, The Battle being one of them.

Why would Paramount care about a detail like that? Fans would, but business executives?

Kev, some of that sounds great, but the Temporal Cold War was really the only thing that ever sounded interesting. It should have started with actual exploration, first meetings with the nearest planets, no Vulcans interfering... and eventually the TCW starts and Enterprise becomes a time travel free for all, with complex plots involving the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th centuries and many others, all interacting. We could see their future because we already know it and what it looks like.
