News Carrie Fisher dies

As a teen when the 1St movie was released, I will forever remember how she stood up to Lord Vader and grabbed that blaster to shoot her way out of that cell block.

We loved you, Carrie.

But you knew that, didn't you?

Nothing was sacred to Carrie Fisher. I doubt if she could send messages back from beyond she'd feel offended by us thinking of Star Wars.
I agree, and at least her final work was completed. The idea of it being unfinished and requiring CGI work I would've found upsetting and disrespectful.

It bums me out...rest easy you outspoken and direct talking glorious woman!
All the best to the family and such....
1977 is one of my better experiences!

I had a bad feeling about the lack of updates over the weekend. That is way too young to die. She had great good fortune and privilege, yet also suffered greatly in life-- it's unfair for it to end so soon. Yet she will continue, for she was an inspiration to uncounted millions over many generations.

RIP, Carrie Fisher. :(

There are no words... I'm completely gutted by this.. I heard second hand over the weekend.. Just can't believe it.

I'm going to see R1 again tonight with a friend, she hasn't seen it yet but knows of the Leia cameo and said she might tear up at that point... well, she won't be alone. :(

That is actually done quite frequently these days, and I'm not referring to Rogue One. Something similar was done when Phillip Seymour Hoffman died with material left to film in the Hunger Games movies. Likewise with Paul Walker on whatever film he was doing when he died.

Hell, it goes as far back as Gladiator when Ridley Scott used a digital double for Oliver Reed after Reed's sudden heart attack.

Oh I know, and I remember the relatively primitive way Brandon Lee was brought back to life to finish off The Crow but with respect to all those great actors I think I would feel differently about a character I've known since I was five years old and a woman who's work I've enjoyed since the day I realised Leia and Carrie were different people(!).

Ironically, part of me dreaded Episode VII because I suspected Han Solo would meet his end in it and now I'm partly dreading Episode VIII because of Carrie Fishers passing and the significance the movie will now hold.

I realized the other day that part of the reason I love stories with kick ass women is probably from seeing Leia in the original trilogy and Kira and Dax in DS9 at a young age.

I wonder if they"ll kill of Leia in the movie too. Or reduce her character in the final movie to holograms and flashbacks. :(

LFL said that Carrie Fisher did not have any more scenes to film in Episode 8. Between cut scenes of Episode 7 & 8, body doubles, and CGI, Princess Leia appearing in Episode 9 might be doable, depending on the story.
