What sequel would you most like to see?

Turd Ferguson

Every Christmas, I always watch Die Hard. Maybe some years I'll also watch Die Hard 2. This year, during my annual watching, I decided to give Live Free or Die Hard and A Good Day to Die Hard another shot. Well, that fell through as I fell asleep halfway through LFoDH out of sheer boredom. Then I got to thinking.

Wouldn't it be badass if they made another Die Hard movie, this time rated R, and brought back Steven E. deSouza (the writer of the first and second one), maybe even let Shane Black work on the script, bring back John McTiernan to direct a movie that took place around Christmas time again? In my imagination, it brings back Bonnie Bedelia as Holly, Reginald Veljohnson as Sgt. Al Powell... hell, maybe even bring back Richard Thornburg. But, anyway, my idea involves the son of Hans Gruber to get his revenge on John McClane (while making some money in the process!) and I would love to see the bad guy portrayed by Benedict Cumberbatch. I'd also let McClane fly solo again. Samuel L. Jackson worked in Die Hard With a Vengeance because Zeus Carver was so cool, but Justin Long and Jai Courtney were shitty sidekicks. So, no sidekicks, except maybe radio backup from Al Powell.

I know the story pitch sounds like fanwank, and I just slapped it together quickly, but are there any ideas for sequels you'd love to see? It could be for current, popular franchises, or for franchises that have gone to shit (like, the aforementioned Die Hard)

SOLOMON KANE 2.

The first movie was enjoyable in its own right, but suffered from origin-itis. Kane didn't fully become the iconic character from the original stories until the final minutes of the movie, when he finally sets out on his never-ending crusade against evil, so we're still waiting for a Solomon Kane movie that features Kane as Kane.

No more Die Hards. Just no more. It's like saying I want more Terminator. No. Let it die.

I'd like a to a Hannibal movie based on the TV show. Or the show coming back.

I will get shit for this but I'd like to see Independence Day 3 where Data and Jeff Goldblum go to seek revenge.

One vote against Dredd 2 here. Let that bloodthirsty video game demo of a movie stand as a lesson to filmmakers: if you want to start a franchise, make a good movie with a strong story the first time around. :shifty:

I'd like to see the rest of the Master & Commander series. :(
By "the rest", do you mean the fifteen or so other stories? ... Because that might take the cast a while. :p

Some other noms:

- I actually really want to see that 23 Jump Street in Black movie that apparently isn't happening now. :( Still, the Jump Street team could always do one more flick to round out the trilogy, either by merging with a property less likely to get a big-budget reboot, or by taking a decade or so, and then goofing on the trope of belated sequels.

- If Jackson and Spielberg don't get cracking on this one, that CG Tintin model is gonna age out of the damn part. :p Granted, the first movie wasn't a classic, and ran a bit out of steam in the third act, but I'm still up for more.

- A charming movie from Aardman Animations; hard to go wrong with them plus pirates.

- Hot Rod is a perfect film that demands no follow-up, but if it were to somehow get one, I'd be there on opening day. :bolian:

- I like this movie, and I'm not ashamed to say so.

- Do I really want a Bourne vs. Bond? Well, put it this way: it's probably the only way to bring me back to either series. Spectre was a coffee table spy-themed photography book that somehow managed to get a theatrical release, and Jason Bourne doesn't even sound worth streaming for free.

Another vote for Dredd 2, another Master & Commander, and Tron3.

My sequel suggestions:

Galaxy Quest: The Journey Continues
(The end of first the film sets it up, and you can incorporate the character's ages and do a dedication to Alan Rickman in-film)

Pulp Fiction: The Adventures of Jules Winnfield
(Follow Jules as he "Walks the Earth like Caine in Kung-Fu", getting into shit and helping motherfuckers)

Predator: 1715
(Predator versus pirates versus the 1715 Spanish treasure fleet that sunk in a storm of Florida with the loss of a thousand men. Set up by the inscription on the flintlock pistol the Predator gave Danny Glover in Predator 2)

Second Contact
(The aliens decide we are ready for further communications and a team is sent through the second machine in Japan. Would more closely adhere to the plot of the novel with the team being sent and would incorporate the message in pi)

Zombieworld
(The Zombieland team heads out to sea to search the world for other survivors)

Godzilla Reborn
(Followup to the Roland Emmerich Godzilla and the egg that hatched beneath Madison Square Garden at the end of the movie)

2061: Odyssey 3 and 3001: The Final Odyssey
(Tommy Lee Jones as Heywood Floyd and Karl Urban as Frank Poole)

District 10
(Christopher returns to free his people from captivity on Earth)

Indiana Jones and the Lost City of Atlantis
(Set in 1962 and dealing with the Cuban Missile Crisis and "the Cuban Underwater City." Mutt and Marian return)

Fight Club: 2nd Rule
(Followup to Project Mayhem's destruction of the US credit system and how Edward Norton deals with his army now that he's free of Tyler)

Matrix: The Second Renaissance
(Live action version of the two-part Animatrix prequel story expanded to feature length, and possibly two films)

The Rock of Gibraltar
(Connery is eleventy and retired, but you know Nic Cage will do it. He's up for anything, literally)

Top Gun 2
(Tom Cruise returns as an instructor and this time the F-14s are the adversary fighters as they face off against Iran in the Straight of Hormuz)

I know some of these ideas went through development hell years ago, and some were made into cartoons and comics, but I'd like to see them done as feature length live action films.

Godzilla Reborn
(Followup to the Roland Emmerich Godzilla and the egg that hatched beneath Madison Square Garden at the end of the movie)

The cartoon series does exactly that and is 10 times better than the 1998 movie. I suggest checking it out. Can be found on Youtube and DVD for like $5-10.

I would love to have seen a follow-up to Super Mario Bros., The Golden Compass, and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. The latter film doesn't really need a sequel, but it would just be fun to see the characters and that world again.

Forbidden Planet (If done in a style consistent with the original).

Star Trek: The Next Generation (one last 24th century movie, using cast members from all three series).

The Incredibles (I think this is in production, actually).

Megamind (Where's the love?).

2061: Odyssey 3 and 3001: The Final Odyssey
(Tommy Lee Jones as Heywood Floyd and Karl Urban as Frank Poole)
I think Karl Urban would make a great Frank Poole.

Air Force One: TWO

Starring a hot young, terrible actor who gets tons of roles for reason no one knows as the current President of the United States, Rock Steel, who was a former Navy Seal and Army Green Beret. I'm think Jai Courtney or Channing Tatum or someone of their ilk.

Along with several ex-Presidents onboard, Harrison Fords President Marshall, Bill Pullmans President Whitmore, Jack Nicholsons President Dale and Martin Sheens President Bartlett. Enroute to an important peace conference in Las Vegas, the city of peace. The Air Force One is border by a terrorist group of freedom fighters made up of generic European henchmen, Asian kung-fu master (actually played by white men in Ninja uniforms) and Aliens, Illegal and those from Outer Space.

This rag tag band of mercenaries are lead by Killgart. Played by a washed up b actor like Daniel Stern or Judge Reinhold, even better a CGI likeness of Philip Seymour Hoffman who you can't tell is CGI because he had the uncanny valley even when he was alive. Kilgart is still pissed that Harrison Fords President Marshall gave him a wedgie back in high school and is now exacting his revenge.
