CBS Home Video has been very active in the Star Trek IP this year and will be next.

CBS Home Video Releases 2016-2017
Paramount Home Media Distribution /CBS Home Video Releases 2016-2017

2016
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan – Director’s Edition on Blu-ray June 7
Star Trek (2009), and Star Trek into Darkness in 4K ultra-HD format as “UHD/Blu-ray/Digital HD combo packs” June 14
Star Trek 50th Anniversary TV and Movie Collection on Blu-ray Sept.6
Star Trek Beyond feature film (Blu-ray/DVD) 11/1
Star Trek The Animated Series 11/15
Star Trek: The Original Series – The Roddenberry Vault. 12/13

CBS Home Video 2017 Q1
A DVD version Star Trek: Enterprise – The Complete Series released earlier, on 1/10
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine – The Complete Series on DVD February 7, 2017.
Star Trek: Enterprise – The Complete Series for Blu-ray release on 2/14
Star Trek: Voyager The Complete Series on DVD released on March 7, 2017.

All of these releases signals to me the potential that Netflix license will expire in USA-only either April 1 or June 1 of 2017. Just speculation but it will probably be to get people to subscribe to CBSAA for the new show and old trek or they can purchase the new releases of old shows on physical media.
Look at those release dates. Every month! Keep in mind CBS Home Video and
CBS Interactive Entertainment where ST: DSC falls under are different divisions and each has to have revenue coming in each quarter.

What about Star Trek DSC release?
I am guessing October 17, 2017 or November 14, 2017 for a Blu-ray of the season 1 set.
I wonder if they will also do a release in November 2017 for “(4k) UHD/Blu-ray/Digital HD combo packs” or if they will wait until Q3 2018 for that to be able to view the show in 4k UHD at home on physical media since surely the show will be mastered for that and my guess is eventually they will allow 4k UHD streaming on CBSAA but probably not until Q3 of 2018 when they will raise the prices (my guess) for subscription for the new "feature" of 4k streaming. Of course after you have paid to own the show in 4k UHD on physical media from CBS Home Video...
Or another strategy CBS may use is making the show available DVD-only for the senior citizens or “(4k) UHD/Blu-ray/Digital HD combo packs” but you can't just buy the blu-ray. This strategy would solidify them to the 4k UHD format and corner them in for people not paying for season 2 subscription and just waiting for the 4k UHD release though. It also limits future release of season 1 in 4k UHD-only on physical media.

Star Trek Beyond feature film in 4K ultra-HD format as “UHD/Blu-ray/Digital HD combo pack” with extra features -June 2017 my guess

What about the TNG Trek feature films remastered in 4K ultra-HD format as “UHD/Blu-ray/Digital HD combo packs” other than the 2 films already released? June 2017 my guess as it is probably part of Apple iTunes making 4k UHD download format available also around that time (2017-2018) also my guess?.

What about the TOS Trek feature films remastered in 4K ultra-HD format as “UHD/Blu-ray/Digital HD combo packs” June 2018 my guess

Let's not turn this into a CBSAA subscription price thread though...

I think the rest of the world will probably get season 1 of DIS on home video far sooner than the US will, IMO.

If I were a betting man, I'd bet that Star Trek: Discovery will be released on home video around April 2018, just prior to the start of the second season.

Star Trek Beyond was already released in 4K UHD Blu-Ray last month. I really hope they don't double dip next year.

whoops. Sorry I missed that from the so many Paramount Home Media Distribution /CBS Home Video Releases this year... I think in Q1 2018 we'll see a 3-pack of all 3 films with all special features though in 4k UHD..

I feel that season 2 doesn't have to start 12 months after season 1 starts. They could totally start it in February 2018 getting them back on the cycle they wanted for annual season start. Winter.

I've pretty much already decided I'm getting the DS9 and VOY re-releases. I couldn't afford them when they originally came out at $100 per season. I bought the TNG re-release that came out over the summer for like $70 and couldn't be happier with it. If the DS9 and VOY release are close to the same price, yes, beam me up!

^If you're inclined to, order from Amazon and get their pre-order price guarantee. You'll get it for the lowest price it reaches at any point before the release date. I just got the Roddenberry Vault blu ray for $15.99 from Amazon, so it's totally worth it, IMO.

I think the best way to figure out when Discovery will come on home video would be to look at Amazon and Netflix's original series. For example Daredevil Season 1 came out on Netflix on April 10, 2015 and the Blu-Ray set came out on November 8 of this year.

Netflix only started doing home media releases lately though, that's why Daredevil was so late to release.

The studio that produces and owns the show (ordered by the network, cable channel, and now, streaming service), is entirely responsible for home video release. Netflix has no control over why Disney/Marvel/ABC Studios waited so long before arranging disc sales.

I wonder if CBS Home Video has plans for The Next Generation for Q3 2017 or 2018 such as an unannounced speculation-only Star Trek: The Next Generation – The Roddenberry Vault ,
Star Trek Deep Space Nine – The Roddenberry Vault , Star Trek Voyager – The Roddenberry Vault , Star Trek Enterprise – The Roddenberry Vault ?

it was stated that there would be no volume 2 of Star Trek: The Original Series – The Roddenberry Vault.

from this thread:
Roddenberry Prods. docu. series from 500 hours of BTSover 20 years
The Toolbox library consists of interviews with cast and crew, as well as behind-the-scenes material shot over the past 20 years, starting with "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and progressing through the three other spinoff series that followed.
more than 500 hours of previously unseen footage.
1986-2006
Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry, the son of late "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry and CEO of Roddenberry Prods., will appear as host of the DVD set, which will showcase the archived material in high-def.

also possibly this release in 2018 may be sanctioned by CBS Home Video for the license to Trek TOS footage:
