Prometheus 2: Apparently it's happening

Bumping this up in anticipation of the (apparently imminent) release of the trailer, which (along with a screening of the first 15 minutes of the film) brought the house down at the 20th Century Fox Showcase preview in New York.

And backbursters. And throatbursters. And shower sex rudely interrupted. And a new 'Neomorph' variety of bug, alongside Original Recipe and Black Goo Marinated. And a 'slow, sad' cover of a David Bowie classic.

In short, everything Prometheus was not.

Woah, I'm usually up on these things, but haven't been paying enough attention, I guess. Nice surprise. Sounds good!

Release date: May 19, 2017

Squeezed between Guardians of the Galaxy and Wonder Woman....eeeeeee !!!!!
And Pirates of the Carribean and Baywatch the week after????

"Predator Vs Sellotape" coming soon. Gift wrapping has never been so vicious.

After Promethei I, II, III, etc, they can have Prometheus XLMXLVCXLICBM: Aliens Vs. Predator Vs. Black Friday At Walmart.

(Entire summary of plot: Xenos and predators both give up and go home)

Some more info has emerged that apparently will connect some dots for fans of the original Alien.
James Franco is playing the captain of the Covenant (a Weyland-Yutani 'shake-and-bake' colony ship of married couples, about to unknowingly set down on the Engineers' homeworld), husband to Katherine Waterston's character 'Daniels.' And, if a certain casting website article from June (since redacted at Fox's demand) is true, his name... will be Captain Ripley.

Yep. It's time to Meet the Parents. :wtf:

You won't be seeing Ellen Ripley's conception or birth in this movie, however. That already happened a decade ago, circa Prometheus. Little Ellen will be living with relatives on Earth, unaware that she's about to become an orphan. :wah:

Possible, I suppose. Or perhaps Daniels remarried (the redacted casting article was about her character, not Franco). It may not matter either way, since

He reportedly dies practically at the beginning of the film, Hicks-style.

Question: Have they showed us what the Covenant spaceship looks like yet?
Just a couple interior shots (with actors Katherine Waterston and Danny McBride) and a small part of the exterior which is either a separable landing craft or a drop down airlock/hangar like the one on the Prometheus, and which ultimately ends up exploding. I also included a piece of Ron Cobb concept art (bottom right) for the Nostromo in Alien that bears a passing resemblance to the part of the Covenant we've seen. Ridley Scott reused one of Cobb's designs for the Nostromo bridge for the bridge of the Prometheus, so it's possible he could do something similar here. Also, note that the Covenant mission patch bears the top cover of the Ark of the Covenant from Raiders on the logo.

Cute patch design. I wonder if Scott is going to pursue the not-so-subtle religious subtext that he started in Prometheus.

When I first saw it I recalled back to Scott implying that Blade Runner and Alien were set in the same universe (there are other connections, see below) and that got me thinking about how the Indiana Jones franchise is all just the dreams of the Rick Deckard replicant. ;)

WOW! That is some seriously compelling evidence, going beyond some simple Easter eggs. Reminds me of when Ed Olmos suggested that NuBSG is actually a prequel to Blade Runner, with replicants just being the next generation of cylon creations by humans seeking to play God (all happened before, etc., etc.) and that Gav is a descendant of Adama.

Heh...funny...I didn't even notice that til you mentioned it - my eyes saw "Ray" but my brain instantly knew "Roy". :)

If you really want to go all out with it, the movie Soldier (with Kurt Russell) was explicitly written to be set in the same universe as Blade Runner, complete with Skimmers in the trash, Replicant soldiers, and the same battles tattooed on Kurt Russell's arm (both movies had the same screenwriter) and in the pilot of Firefly when Malcom Reynolds mans the anti-aircraft gun to shoot down Alliance fighters at the battle of Serenity Valley, the tactical heads up display has the Weyland-Yutani logo on it.
