The reason Star Trek books are much higher these days is because of Apple. So please DO NOT BUY ANY EBOOKS FROM APPLE!
Nice find! IIRC, the TWOK novelization is our first repeat... it was part of the sale when they had all the movie novelizations on (May?). Higher priced, you mean? How so?
Apple violated price-fixing laws and conspired with some publishers (including S&S) to artificially inflate ebook prices in the general market back in 2010, as part of trying to compete with Amazon. https://www.theguardian.com/technol...-settlement-e-book-price-fixing-supreme-court
I thought that was what the lawsuit was over, and that it brought an end to all of that. Most of the e-books on Google Play are between US$8.99-US$3.99, which is pretty close to the standard paperback price. There are a few that are quite a bit more expensive, like US$15.99 for That Which Divides, but I think those are priced based on the print on demand versions.
Ah, thanks for the information! (I was going to just 'like' your post, but then I realized I didn't want it to come across like I liked price-fixing... )
The lawsuit is over. But, the time period the publishers were not allowed to price fix is over and they are back to price fixing. That's why (for example) that some Star Trek novels are priced at $15.99. That's just stupid. Nobody is going to buy at that sort of price.
Here are the deals for December 2016, Star Trek: The Original Series: The Eugenics Wars Series The Eugenics Wars: Volume 1 The Eugenics Wars: Volume 2 Khan: To Reign in Hell The Wrath of Khan Star Trek: Voyager: Dark Matters Series Cloak and Dagger Ghost Dance Shadow of Heaven Star Trek: Bonus Deals The Entropy Effect Broken Bow
So what are other people's opinions of the Dark Matters trilogy? Also it would be awesome if they continued these sales after December. I'm sure they are boosting sales.
I didn't care for the Dark Matters trilogy. I normally like Christie Golden's books but these just fell flat for me. I didn't like the last book at ALL but a lot of that was down to her literary choices which I disagreed with. Other readers might be perfectly fine with what she chose to do. I personally would have enjoyed it more had she gone a slightly different direction with a couple of the characters.
Well I'm probably going to pass since I haven't heard anything good at this point. The Khan books are tempting though.
Disappointing picks this month, overall: http://www.startrekbooks.com/pages/ebookpromodecember - DS9: The Star Ghost - DS9: Emissary - ENT: By the Book - TNG: Unification - TNG: All Good Things - VOY: Endgame - VOY: Pathways Picked up Pathways; I remember that being pretty decent.
Is there a theme there that I'm missing? What a weird selection of books. Especially "The Star Ghost". "Beginnings and endings" if you squint at it, I guess?
Thanks for posting the list, JoeP. If this is the last month for the $1.99 deals, it ended on sort of a whimper. I'm still very grateful that S&S offered these deals over the course of this year, because they finally gave us an opportunity to get the Slings and Arrows eNovella series at an affordable (i.e., not insanely expensive) price. Maybe there's hope that the monthly deals will continue into next year.
Yes Slings and Arrows was a great oppurtunity. And I too am hopeful they will just keep going next month.
Emissary is decent. I don't really remember anything about the other novelizations, except that Endgame is, well, you know, by Diane Carey.
