Also, and let's just be clear on this, we've elected a celebrity with absolutely no experience in government, based solely on the strength of his brand. Kanye 2020, anybody? Maybe we should just make the whole thing into reality TV, really milk the marketing rights.

Maybe only Martin Sheen can save us ...

America decided it would rather elect a hateful bigot and likely rapist than a woman.

We have made our bed.
This was a Kobayashi Maru of an election season. (I did try to change the conditions of the test.) Mrs. Clinton's sex was not a factor. (Which is it's own kind of silver lining to these dark dark times.)

I'm not american, but damn does this suck for the whole world.
Trump won because he was not only voted for by racists but by classes of people totally fooled by his empty words. The rest were the people who were too stubborn to vote for Hilary, or a woman or were pushed over to Trump's camp by the elitist left calling everyone out on having an opinion that didn't agree with it.

Whoever is drunk here or is drinking sorry i'm late to the party. I'm on my first bottle of Vodka and hoping desperately this is a bad dream I can wake up from.

Totally sickened by today.

Things like improving infrastructure don't just benefit white people. Trump never limited his vision to just white people. Time will tell if he follows through with his promises.

How exactly do you think women will benefit from the GOP taking away control of our bodies again? And from the fact that a man who has bragged about sexual assault managed to be elected president of the US?
You don't think that influences the public discourse?

It took decades to teach men that sexism isn't okay, and that at least in public it's never accepted. Many assholes will feel emboldened by the fact that not only does open misogyny not hurt you, it even helps you become president.

The work of generations was in vain.

This is a huge setback and will hurt women enormously. Not just politically but mostly in society.

The male white tunnel view in your posts is sad and irritating. I hope you will find more empathy.

Trump lacks the authority to overturn Roe v Wade, but I concede that he could appoint Justice's that could one day do that.

American politicians keep a lot of secrets in the dark, and most Americans know that. Trump's flaws are pretty public. Don't know what to tell you. Politics will always be a world of lesser evils.

He can also defund PP and there's more.
But like I said the implications on public discourse and society worry me even more. He has normalized terrible behavior.
Women and minorities will suffer because of that.

That requires tax revenue from someone that is pledging to cut taxes and increase military spending. Where's the money coming from for the trillion dollars in infrastructure improvements that are needed nationwide?

A president can't be elected by straight white males alone. And not all straight white males voted for Trump.
Of course not. That would be the same as Trump saying that all Muslims are extremists. I'm giving Emilia the benefit of the doubt though that she doesn't mean all white straight males.

He probably intends on cutting spending in other ways. But, some economists said his policies will add more to the national debt than Hillary's. They could be right. We are destined to find out how this Trump thing pans out, so we will see.

Just wanted to share what my wife posted on FB this morning:

"So, this morning, I have friends who are happy. I hope they don't gloat, and instead resolve to work towards understanding that the other side also feels strongly about various issues. I have friends who are upset. I hope they don't act bitter and angry, and instead resolve to work towards understanding that the other side also feels strongly about various issues.

I also hope everyone picks up a copy of the Constitution and actually reads it. Many of the things people have angrily, bitterly denounced each candidate for, are things that they can't actually do. It's up to the people (that's us) to safeguard our rights, by voting in elections, by contacting our Congresspeople, and by teaching our children how to think critically and gather information from multiple sources before making reasoned decisions. Not to simply react based on memes or posts on facebook, or tweets by our fave celebrity.

Above all, though, we must be kind to each other. Always be kind and try to understand where our neighbors are coming from."

Which means trying to solve budget shortfalls on the backs of the poor. Which Republican controlled states have been trying for a while now, and still have budget shortfalls.

Painting with a broad brush and insulting people is what drives people away from your side of the fence.

The side of tolerance, equality and fairness.
I can see how a little insult would sway people away from that towards a racist like Trump.

Let's not pretend otherwise, Like Farage and co, Trump played on peoples fears and intolerances, he lied, lied and lied again.
If people are unable to see through such obvious lies then they have no right to get all uppity when called on it.

At this point, it's water under the bridge. This is the world you live in now, and time will tell what he actually does. I am not buying that he will be unfair to minorities though.
