My Problem With.....

All things considered I think TOS has stood up extremely well given it's 50 years old. But one small thing that always bothered me was beaming down to a planet that wasn't an Earth-like planet, mainly because they often lit the sky with a plain dayglo colour. Purple, red, green. I get the idea that some alien skies might be different, but it's like they would just stick a plastic colour sheet over the studio lights. Plus those planets would often be rock planets, which would make the colour more obvious. It is particularly notable in Spectre of the Gun where it's the same kind of set again, just with half built building fronts stuck on it.

Yes, that old low budget hit TOS really hard during the 3rd season.

He did the growls for the Hulk during the first season or two, and they had enough recordings of his voice doing said growls that they were able to use them for *I think* the rest of the show after he passed away.

Ted Cassidy did the growls for The Hulk? That I can believe! But I wouldn't have guessed in a thousand years, always thought it was Lou!

That definitely wasn't Ted Cassidy narrating the titles!
JB

johnnybear, Cassidy was the narrator for the main title of The Incredible Hulk, starting with the 2nd movie "Death in the Family", and provided the the Hulk's growls from the pilot to the second season episode "The Confession". Cassidy died age of 46 on January 16, 1979, and was replaced by character actor Charles Napier (Adam from "The Way to Eden" among his many roles). To honor Cassidy, his narration of the main title was used for the remainder of the series.

That definitely was Cassidy doing the opening narration. And yes, Napier did the Hulk's voice after Cassidy passed away.

Having been a fan of the Hulk TV show and Trek and Lost in Space, all three having some input from old Ted I cannot accept that he did the narration, it just doesn't have his deep featured voice! Listen to him in any of his other roles, even as the big guy in Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid where he says "Rules, in a knife fight?", just isn't his vocalisation I'm sorry!

Napier was in an episode of The Hulk, third season I believe and yes he could have done the grunts and growls for the jade giant after Ted passed, no arguments there...

Well, you're arguing with well-established fact. And you might want to check out the intro of the show again. I'd post a YouTube clip, but the best quality one I could find sounds slightly sped up, which undermines the point.

What did Napier take over the role from Lou? Boy how did I miss that?:lol::lol:
JB

Yes. Cassidy's voice is heard in all up to the last two 2nd season episodes, but as mentioned above, his main title narration remained for all 82 episodes of TIH.

OK. I did some more research. It appears that when IMdB lists Napier as The Hulk, they apparently meant he did the grunts and growls only, not any on-camera time as Hulk. That makes more sense. Maybe he took over after Ted Cassidy passed away.

Edit....I just saw Old Mixer's post about Napier doing The Hulk voice after Ted passed away.

Probably doesn't bother others but the three sliding knows used on the transporter has always bugged me. It made for some dramatic scenes in some episodes but given the high tech automation of the future it sure seemed like the manual calibration and someway synching the three by feel was archaic. I would have been more comfortable with one knob. But still I do like the episode scenes where such deft touch was pertinent to the drama.

It is particularly notable in Spectre of the Gun where it's the same kind of set again, just with half built building fronts stuck on it.

In that case, though, they did it on purpose, to highlight the fact that the landscape was drawn from bits and pieces of Kirk's memories. So it was supposed to look that way.

Fact or not I don't accept it! I've heard Ted's voice hundreds of times and that voice ain't his!

Go to youtube, type in "incredible hulk tv intro" and listen to the first clip. Even if it is sped up, the diction and pronunciation is distinctively Ted Cassidy's. There's no mistaking it. As I typed this, I in fact listened to the first two clips, and once again, even if it is sped up, the voice is unmistakably Ted Cassidy.

And I concede that he was replaced as the voice of the growls and grunts. Others' research bears that out.
