Spoilers Supernatural - Season 12

Not much of an episode---just a lot of set-up for other things.

For Rowena, is pissing off Lucy really a good idea? Bottom of the ocean or not, he'll be back.

Mary will be back, of course; that's a given.

Mary will definitely be back -- probably with knowledge of a MacGuffin the Winchesters will need at that very moment to stop something -- but this show is too slavishly devoted to their status quo. I wonder if the reason these characters never have heart to heart conversations with each other is because the showrunners simply don't know how to write them.

The season's off to a pretty good start. I liked what they did with Mary, although I do agree it's annoying they got rid of her so quick. I guess we just can't let those girl cooties contaminate the boys for too long.
The British Men of Letters are an interesting enemy for the season.

Oh, yeah she'll definitely show back up for the end of the season. I wondered how long she was going to be around when I saw that she was only recurring, so I was wondering what was going to happen to keep her from being around all the time. I'm just glad she left rather than being killed.

I don't think Mary is gone for good. It's an angst arc, of course, so she'll be back before too long. But I'm just hoping that she'll be back for good. I'd really like her to become a permanent part of the cast and team, not just for this season, but for the rest of the series. She's really great for the dynamic and can bring out new facets in the boys.

Likewise, I don't think they've gotten rid of Rick Springfield so easily. :rommie: Good plan, though-- accelerate the decomposition of the host ("Iggy Pop" :rommie:) and send him to the bottom of the ocean. It kind of gives me visions of a Lucifer-possessed Monstro the Whale rising up out of Boston Harbor, but I doubt if they have the budget for that.

How busy is Springfield these days?
I think it was rather ambiguous if he'll stay in that host or not. The body could either continue to decay to nothing, or he could get himself off the ocean bottom and find a way to heal the body.

The showrunners mentioned multiple actors playing Lucifer throughout the season, so Springfield may be done.

I don't quite understand how Roweena thought that would do any good, though. When he's not in a body isn't he just smoke? Other demons don't seem to have any trouble getting around without a body.

I don't know if that's ever been clarified. They seem to need to be in a host to survive-- or at least to function-- and yet there have been instances where have been attacks by demons of pure smoke (I think).

Maybe Lucifer will be played this year by a succession of 80s rockers. Maybe Cindy Lauper will be next. :rommie:

Haven't those attacks been either right after they arrived on Earth, or right after they lost their host? Maybe they can only survive for a limited amount of time without a host body.

I seem to recall, in the ep Jus in Bello, the boys were in a police station that was beseiged by smoke monsters. I don't remember if they could hurt people directly. They do seem to be able to interact with their environment.

That would be cool. Just no Lady Gaga, please.

^^ We have to stick with the 80s theme. And that police station scene was exactly what I was thinking about.

The problem with Lucifer being in other hosts is that it just makes me miss Mark Pellegrino all the more.
He was really awesome.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, but I don't think it's ever really been established. Can Lucifer really die without a host? That doesn't seem likely.

Nevermind that Crowley can teleport, so... shouldn't Lucifer be able to do so as well? And why can't Lucy just go back to Hell? It was only his prison that was an issue, not Hell itself.

So much doesn't make sense.

^..and as they established earlier in the series, very few bodies can actually hold him. He burns through them very quickly. Apparently, there is a genetic line that is more capable of being a vessel but even those bodies can hold him for all that long. So for Lucy, finding a body is a big chore.

Finding a permanent body is a chore. He can seemingly jump into anyone he wants for a few days at a time, give or take. And he only needs permission on a superficial level, as he can clearly bewitch nearly anyone into saying yes like he did Springfield, and presumably that entire family he consumed; and if seeing your family members being possessed and destroyed over and over in front of you isn't enough to give you the courage to say 'no,' I'm not really sure what would other than the writer's wanting to make some drama.

And do we know that Lucifer was affected by the spell that took away the angels' wings? He was hidden pretty far from reality, behind some pretty powerful wards. I also don't remember ever seeing him teleport before then, either, which would mean either he doesn't because he doesn't like to or he can't because he never could (which would be nice to get some dialogue on).

I seem to recall one of the last two episodes showing the outlines of Lucifer's fully-functional wings (after taking over Springfield's body).
