They have bigger issues if the use of "he" or "she", whichever is applicable, causes them "harm".
What if you were referred to as "it," or "that" instead of pronouns, and what if it wasn't just one obstinate person, but entire swathes of people questioning your very humanity? It is foolish and myopic to think that words do not and cannot cause harm, especially when the ones being denied personhood are a minority.

Language, grammar, syntax, and meaning are all entirely made up.

Exactly, all labels, names and pronouns are artificial to begin with. As gender is studied more, and the subtle variances in it discovered, new terms are created to deal with them. As happens with...everything else.

You can't force people to use words someone made-up in a blog-post and threaten them with the force of the law if they do not use them.
Do you not know that ALL words are made up? Seriously, every gutteral tone you make with your tongue and vocal chords, every ululation, every utterance, is nothing more than syntax created to express ideas and thoughts to others, and also creates inroads into the expression of the self. Language is powerful, as is the use of language to oppress and ostracize.

I think being denied your identity and value by your peers and community is a pretty big deal and people have every right to demand respect for their personhood. That's fundamental shit.
It's the most basic level of respect. But I guess it's fine to deny some people of that on the name of free speech. Where do we draw the line? Is it just for transgender people or can we extend it to races?

Language, grammar, syntax, and meaning are all entirely made up. Made up by humans, and constantly evolving. Language wasn't handed down to us by god. We make it up. And language adapts to suit our (collectively our) needs. If someone prefers one pronoun to another, and they ask you to do so, you should probably do that. It's not a question of freedom, it's a question of not being a closed-minded jerk.

I agree. But it turned from potentially just being a jerk into a question of freedom by the mere fact that the use of these preferred pronouns is to be mandated by the force of law.

I'm gay. I want you to refer to me as faggot and fag from now on.

Bill C-16 is not about forcing people to use preferred pronouns, it's about harassment and discrimination against protected classes, of which transgender individuals are now a part. Jordan Peterson has apparently made a name for himself by being vocally against this, and like many people who don't understand what they're fighting against, he seems to miss a great many details.

An explaination of the C-16 bill:

Also, as a side note, when Breitbart is championing someone like Jordan Peterson, perhaps you should rethink your commitment to the validity of that person's cause.

And you too would use the force of law to make people utter those tones and sounds?

Warning for trolling. Comments to PM. You know where to find me by this point.

And we're done here. This thread was bullshit to begin with and you're making it obvious you're just here to stir up trouble. Sorry to the other people who were doing an admirable job of refuting his nonsense and having a serious discussion despite his best efforts to prevent it.
