That article is more about Fuller being ousted with a reference to the kind of characters the show is rumoured to feature. Still, as others have said, that was already revealed back in the summer.

Just because the Federation and the Empire are enemies ten years later doesn't mean they are during the time of Discovery.

And even if the Klingons are adversaries, that doesn't preclude a cooperative venture if it's in both parties' interests. A common greater foe, a scientific venture, etc. Even the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. cooperated on *some* things.
