So barring unforseen events I know the next UK general elections will be in 2020, 2025, 2030, 2035, 2040. Of course we have a parlimentary system rather than a presidential system. But of course campaigning in the UK general elections only begins once Parliament has been dissolved around 6 weeks out from a general election. The big difference of course the US parties have to select their nominated candiate for Presidential nomination first. Now of course they could in theory shorten the primary season, but it comes down to what ever system works best for them.

I'm beginning to get worried about Hillary now, given the unhinged vitriol that Trump supporters are up to -- and they're worse than ever, following their candidate's example, adopting a siege mentality. After she wins the election, I am genuinely starting to worry that someone is going to make an attempt on her life. This is worse than I remember the anti-Obama stuff being in '08. Trump's rallies are out of control. And he DOESN'T attempt to control them like McCain did back then. He actively encourages their hate.

As a Brit, I'm still confused how Trump even got into contention, never mind hoping that Hilary wins (though I am, Hilary isn't a perfect candiate, as she's a politican, you're always going to find something to dislike about them).

Three and a half weeks until the show really starts. Whomever loses this campaign will not let it rest Nov. 9th. There will be a metric ton of bullshit being paraded down every main street about how the election was rigged. This is only the beginning.

If by "they" you mean the establishment then the answer is they didn't. They were backing Jeb from the very beginning and when he flopped they jumped to Rubio then Cruz. Trump was the last thing they wanted.

They could've stopped him at the convention. It was within their power to do so. But they didn't. He gained a record number of primary votes, and they wanted to "respect the will of the people." All of his rabid, foaming-at-the-mouth deplorable voters.
