No one here has called you a name, I've asked you numerous times why you have such a massive problem with the organisers.

I think Four Lights' post and detailed response to it should answer that question for you pretty succinctly. If not, I think Amazon have some nice old fashioned join the dots activity books.

Only problem is that CBS, in league with Joiner, has been going around getting independent fan events closed down, even if they're not infringing on CBS IP.

The only one I know of has been FCD - and the culprit there was very obvious, sadly. I think the Banquet etc are still going unless there's something I've missed? (which is a fair possibility!)

I tend to head to MCM more than anything, and am venturing to some other smaller general cons - but thats more for work (my wife runs a stall, I promote a club...). The only specific one I'm heading to is still quite generic and not connected to any brand.

Just a shame that anyone would consider dropping the con experience (which can be great, and very diverse) because of the usual Showmasters shenanigans :/

On a sidenote: I'm quite surprised Chase Masterson is back for this one

Yes, if I had asked today, but I haven't, I asked weeks and weeks ago and on your behalf, it still says bugger all!

You've been shitting all over this event for pages and pages. It's certainly understandable that people would want to understand why. Your level of vitriol seems very disproportionate. If you don't want to answer, then of course you're under no obligation to do so.

However, your personal insult here is not okay. Leave that stuff out of it, or you'll be warned.

Thanks.

You might want to remind Cultcross of that last line when you're all in your virtual staff room drinking coffee. One rule for the moderators, one rule for me. And I didn't even call anyone anything.

You called him stupid. I know it, you know, everyone reading this thread knows it.

And, you've been on this board long enough to know you're not allowed to argue moderator actions in thread. If you have a problem, take it to PM. You've also been on this board long enough to know that if you see a post that violates the rules, you're supposed to use the "notify" option (which you did not).

Now drop it.

Thanks.

I would actually really like to go to this as it's my Birthday on Friday, but I have friends visiting and when it was announced, money was a bit tight and we decided not to go, although to be honest, going to Brum is probably as hard to get to from here as it was what I lived near Bristol.

Saturday day entry now apparently sold out. I suspect they're just trying to force people to go on Sunday. DSTL3 in 2014 was supposed to be dead on the Sunday, and with Sunday being the only day Shatner's on stage, Shitemasters will want as many people there coughing up their £25 for 45 minutes. . .At least Creation gave Shatner an hour on stage back in 2003, and it was all included in the £25 entry price. #showmethemoney

Given the will he/won't he turn up situation surrounding Robert Duncan McNeill, and that he won't be there on Friday, I have no confidence that he'll attend at all. If he turns up, bonus, but sadly, we've been here before with Shitemasters, and I know where it usually ends.

Quite a few people who are travelling up from the south on trains, and who won't get to the NEC before 10.30am on Saturday, have been complaining they'll miss photoshoots and talks. Not sure which side of the fence I sit on with that one. Joiner's deliberately witheld the schedule until it's too late for people to make alternative arrangements, but then if you've already paid for stuff, it's your responsiblity to make sure you get there for door opening, and can stay the whole day. He badly screwed up holding this event in Birmingham and not block booking hotel rooms at an affordable rate for attendees like Creation have done for decades.

Don't see a problem with holding it in Birmingham, so what if people travelling from the South won't be able to get there before 10:30, you could just as well argue that if it was held in London those travelling from the North might not be able to get there before 10:30.

It's literally 5 minutes from my door, and on my birthday weekend. Looked into going, never done one before but was gobsmacked at some of the prices being asked for photos etc. It might be par for the course, as I said I've never done one before so I don't know, but it's more than I'm willing to pay. I did a comic-con for the first time last year and was fairly underwhelmed. Maybe I'm just not a convention person?

Yeah, Birmingham's pretty central and is a big city with a multitude of hotels, B&Bs etc, not sure how much handholding people actually need sometimes. Even if you were travelling up from the south there's plenty of trains that will get you to Birmingham way earlier than 10.30 (assuming you can get out of bed early!)

I appreciate some people will live in remoter areas with cruddy transport links, or have special requirements with regard to hotels but the unavoidable truth is that if doors open at 9/9.30 you have to realise that means you might need to get there early.

If you're in central London and can get straight to Euston, the 7.03am gets to Birmingham in 70 mins. Dirt cheap as well. But if you're outside of London, and not near a station on the Euston to Birmingham route, you might be struggling. Outside of London, the national train network is pretty awful. The further west you go in southern England, the slower and more expensive the trains are.

Many, if not the majority of people who seem to be going to this event are under 30 year old first timers who have no idea what they're letting themselves in for, are often incapable of finding out and reading basic information for themselves, and need general hand holding. It's a very sad indictment of the young in the UK.

But doesn't that still apply even if it was in London, unless you live near a main line station i.e the West or East Coast lines you might be struggling. London isn't the be all and end all of the UK, look I've attended events in London and you know what I do? Go down the day before and book an Hotel.

For me Birmingham is about a 2.5 hour drive, it's also about 2.5 drive from London, Leeds, about 2 hours from Cardiff, Bristol. It's only really when you get North of Kendal or Darlington that it starts to get over 3 hours drive or South of London or Exeter. A 2.5 hour drive is easy.

I agree with you in theory, but I doubt you were paying £450 a night for a hotel in London, which is what every hotel around the NEC put its room prices up to as soon as Shatner decided to announce the event on twitter. While some people have decided to book much cheaper rooms in Birmingham and get the train to the NEC, a lot of people won't want the inconvenience of extra travel, and having their evening activities dictated by train times.

^but you could have booked an hotel when the event was announced, you can always cancel the booking later if you decide not to go (true the cancellation policy of hotels can vary). But as I also pointed out Birmingham is well within driving distance for many so no hotel needed.

But if the event was in London, hotels around the venue might have put up their prices as well and you would still have the inconveniance of either getting the tube or a bus either to get to venue/ your hotel or Train station back if you weren't staying in an Hotel.

So no matter where an event is held in the country it will be easier for some and more inconveniant for others to get to.

Some guy called Michael Moore (no, not that one), who runs a company that make props has been announced. Utter desperation.

". . his expertise lies in prop construction designer, prop shop director, mould maker and prop fabricator."

Fabricating props is something Jason Joiner knows all about. I wonder if Moore passes off any of his home made efforts as "screen used" as well.
