My first bit of advice is to take everything Admiral Grumpy has to say with a pinch of salt, we've been trying all thread to work out what his issue is but all he seems to do is post snark and laugh at the thought that attendees might be disappointed.
Had some great photo ops at Showmasters events myself, including with Shatner at LFCC a couple of years ago. He was very jovial but is a quick meet though, because of his popularity, so don't expect a long conversation. If you're short of cash, I'd actually leave him out because despite his name value, your experience to cost ratio is probably worst with him.
Armin Shimmerman is a good laugh, although it's been years since I met him and George Takei is so into the fan thing (it's basically his career now) that he always seems really pleased to see people. Of the others I've met Marina Sirtis according to my autograph collection but the fact I barely remember it is probably not a good sign!
I'm mostly focusing on TOS people this time on the entirely callous reasoning that it'll probably be my last chance with some of them.

Thanks I had got that impression from the Admiral's other postings, but interesting to get alternative views. I know what you mean about the TOS crew, I'd seen Kenny Baker (but didn't get his autograph) in London not realising within a few weeks he'd be gone :(

Looks like Frakes has now pulled out.

Connor Trinneer announced himself about 2 weeks ago. God only knows why it's taken the clowns this long to make an official announcement.

Very weak new guests. Trinneer and Keating were over here in February. Wang is probably only here to compare the "opening ceremony". . whatever that is. No one knows. And who hasn't seen Alice Krige and Chase Masterson?

Shitemasters have made themselves look like incompetent liars again, but then what's new? It was only 9 days ago they posted on Facebook that Frakes was still coming, when everyone else said he probably wasn't. And today, Frakes gets cancelled.

Still only one captain for the big 50th, and only two TNG cast members. Since we've lost Park, Frakes, and McNeil said at Vegas he won't be there, there are only really two extra guests to what was already a miniscule lineup. 5 weeks to go. No autograph prices, no free talk schedule, no timetables. Nothing. Joke.

Gates McFadden has announced herself on Twitter. Nothing official from the clowns. If she comes, it'll only be because fans started asking difficult questions after she said a few weeks ago that she'd not been invited.

Adam Nimoy has tweeted several times that he's supposedly attending. In what capacity is anyone's guess as there's been nothing official from Shystermeisters.

The event is two weeks today, and people who've bought packages are really starting to lose their shit.

The photoshoot groups for package holders haven't been filled. One of the groups still has Frakes in it. One of the groups doesn't even have a headline guest because Shystermeisters don't have one. Even George Takei has now been deemed a £35 photoshoot guest as Joiner can't get any other captain or first officer actors. I'm guessing Walter's probably not too happy about that.

The autograph groups for package holders are a complete mystery. Glad I'm not one of the muppets who shelled out £3000.

There's been no word of and no ticket sales for the supposed opening ceremony on the Friday evening.

No mention of talks, paid or free, and no schedules for talks.

No photoshoot schedules.

No signing times.

Only 6 main cast guests announced since the initial event announcement last February.

Welcome to Europe's official 50th anniversary Star Trek convention run by Shystermeisters who really don't give a shit if anyone turns up or not.

A very interesting and rather enlightening conversation was had today with a director of Media 10 about the shit shower that he and his mate Joiner at Shystermeisters are putting on. So much of it was evasive BS that I'm not sure where Mr Director ended and Joiner began. They may even be one and the same! There were however some juicy nuggets of info.

Nichelle was never invited

CBS ordered Media 10 and Joiner to get a NASA astronaut on the guest list in an effort to make DSTE less like traditional Star Trek events because those haven't been getting the numbers through the door.

Much of what Media 10 and Shystermeisters had planned for this event has fallen through. I was met with no answer when I asked what was going to be there for day entry attendees.

The long list of main cast actors who HAVE NOT been announced for this event were either unavailable, asking for too much money, or have been deemed not to be "decent content". So, Nana Visitor (who's publicly gagging for an invite), Michael Dorn, LeVar Burton, Rene Auberjonois, Colm Meaney and the rest. . . .you're not decent content.

10,000 tickets have been sold for the Saturday. That's the usual chesnut that was wheeled out for the last event, and I don't believe it. If it were true, budget wouldn't be a problem, and the demands of the above guests would pose no issue.

What on earth is going with this event? Lots of negative comments on their forum and facebook pages about talk tickets only going on sale a couple of days ago, people being ripped off with their allocations who've bought package deals, and photo shoots with more actors together being added at the last minute, that basically screw over people who already bought single ones thinking that was all that was going to be available.

Personally I feel they've let me down by having virtually nobody there as a guest beyond actors from the shows. Would it of hurt to have got at least a couple of writers/producers or such like there to give us a bit more insight into what it took to actually make the shows? They've managed to get an some old astronaut as a guest, but they couldn't/wouldn't get any backroom staff!?!? They must think we're all so dumb that we'd have no interest in anything unless it involves a face we've already seen on the screen.

Also the schedule for the event was supposed to be getting released today (with only a week to go) Technically there is still time to do that I guess, as it's 2PM at the moment. Really though, this is no way to run anything! How are people supposed to plan ahead?

First and maybe last convention I think I will be going to.

I'd highly recommend not packing in other conventions. There are others out there that, while they don't specialise on Trek, are highly enjoyable to be at. Most of which have less fuss and confusion. And there are always great people to meet (both pro's and other attendees) who make the day great :)

It's exactly as you've said. And people around here call me names because I've been pointing out exactly this kind of behaviour from Jason Joiner for years. Also, around lunchtime today, the £195 Shatner, Koenig, Takei TOS bridge photoshoot which only went on sale yesterday purely as a "fuck over the fans who've already bought individual shoots because Joiner needs the money" measure, has been cancelled and refunds issued. We have to assume at least one of the above actors hadn't agreed to do it. Usual Joiner behaviour. He's done it a 100 times before. He'll do it another 1000 times unless he's put out of business.

The event is still being advertised as "come and meet cast and crew". As you rightly point out, that ain't happening cos there's no crew announced! So, that's one for the Advertising Standards Authority.

They're not. I've been waiting for photoshoot times before I commit to buying the couple of shoots I wanted as I can't be there on Saturday any later than 3.30pm, and it was pointless buying ahead and then finding the shoots were after I have to leave. The Shatner photo ops have now sold out, and I'll probably miss the Terry Farrell ones as well.

First and maybe last convention I think I will be going to.

TBH, if you'd done your research, you'd never have parted with your money. This event is a shambles. It's a money grabbing scam. It's a huge stain on Star Trek, CBS, John Van Citters, Media 10, and Shitemasters, although the latter's long been so filthy, not even neat bleach would do any good. I'm just glad I saw it coming, and the only money I've parted with is £30 for day entry.

Only problem is that CBS, in league with Joiner, has been going around getting independent fan events closed down, even if they're not infringing on CBS IP.
