Cause and Effect - the Bozeman

retroenzo

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
Time and time again we witness the Enterprise get destroyed by the Bozeman coming out of an anomaly on a collision course. Time and again we see the Enterprise fail to get in contact with the Bozeman before the Enterprise's demise.

What was going on aboard the Bozeman at the time I wonder. And what would have happened to the Bozeman if the Enterprise remained destroyed?

Maybe all their sensors were off-line? The crew seemed very laid back considering the near-miss.

The Bozeman crew did seem clueless. And I love Picard's "do you know what year this is?" bit ... like, "oh, you tree-dwelling, 23rd century primitives!"

I'd at least expect a thank you. After all, their ship apparently did not do thing one to avoid the collision. lol

They experienced odd feelings of deja vu, but shrugged it off. And the captain was having a really good day, so was more than happy to relive it for an eternity.

I was always given to understand that the very first question any celebrity asks when first joining a new cast in a Hollywood production is, "who supplies the coke?"

Well...the bridge crew of the Enterprise weren't exactly all worked up over an antique nearly taking them out either.

What would have happened had the E-D been destroyed and stayed destroyed? Bozeman would have set course for the nearest known Federation starbase and, assuming it was still there at that time, been in for a really big surprise..assuming some Excelsior Class ship didn't find them first, then they would have been surprised then.

While Picard thinks the Bozeman was stuck in a loop for 80 years, it doesn't make any sense. They came 80 years into the future and then crashed into the Enterprise 30 seconds later. there would be nothing for the Bozeman to crash into to cause a loop for the first 79 years, so their time travel must be more conventional.

Honestly, "Cause and Effect" makes my head hurt. Can't wrap my head around how the time thingy works.

You're not supposed to...it's just a plot device. How else can a random battle produce a rift in time and space? (Yesterdays Enterprise)

I always thought Enterprise was stuck in the loop, Bozeman wasn't. All Bozeman did was jump to the future, collided and went on their merry way.

This.

Plus it's an incredibly short amount of time between the Bozeman coming through and the Enterprise's hail. This idea that they had loads of time to run scans seems a bit false, and it also operates on the assumption that they new that had gone through a crack in time.

I never subscribed to the notion that the Bozeman was stuck in a timeloop for 80 years - logically it couldn't have done, since the events that prompted the temporal reset didn't even take place for 79.99 years!

It's surprising how often the opposite interpretation takes place, however. :brickwall:

I think people take the crew's spitballing as fact a little too often. MAYBE the 1701C was sent forward due to battle. Maybe the battle triggered a preexisting "fault" in space. Maybe it had nothing to do with the battle. It's been about a year since I saw that EP, but I don't think anyone spent much time analyzing the root cause.

In the end, it doesn't matter.
