Kim married Lynnis Paris to get back into Tom's inner circle, since a married family man doesn't have time to hang out much with a dopey child like bachelor, without it getting weird and competitive.

He's using Tom's kids to get to Tom, like a reverse Lolita.

You realize that just a Tom was about to, Harry would likely outlive Lynnis as they would both outlive Tom's grandson and Harry's son.

Which means that the Ocampa's short-lived gene is an ultra-dominant one.

Girls are fertile at 3, and boys are fertile at 8.

(Kes' daddy died before her first birthday. If that's normal, then the men shag women half their age, and make a family, just before they die, which isn't the worst way to go.)

Or maybe he died in an accident or of a disease, we're not told.

If they were going to hook up, it would have been during The Chute.

A good way to balance out all that crazy they were feeling, might have been an abundance of orgasms, if they were too dumb to make toilet wine?

And they did live together.

How many beds were there in their room?

They couldn't make any wine, they had barely enough to eat.

Maybe Ocampa males are fertile for a longer window than the female's "just once and for a short period of time" otherwise the Ocampa life cycle would be even more ridiculous than it already is. Imagine if a couple's fertility windows don't coincide...

1. It's possible that the Ocampa do not believe/practice recreational sex.

2. It's possible that the Nacene accidentally crippled the Ocampa's reproductive vitality when they buggered the planet.

3. It's possible that the Nacene intentionally crippled the Ocampa's reproductive vitality so that their species would die out "naturally" since each new generation is half the size of the last, until there's no more of Ocampa, about the same time Caretaker dies of old age.

4. It's Possible that Ocampan Women drop litters. If each couple produces 3 to 8 babies, then there's nothing wrong with their life cycle.

5. It's possible that they practice polygamy, or rapid sequential "marriages" so that each dude, has 8 wives over the course of his life time, during/near each of those women's fertility strike zones.

It seems odd that in Elogium, Kes says something like (I forget the exact line) "If I'm ever to have a baby/a child, it has to be now."

Whatever term she uses, it's in the singular and not plural, she doesn't say "If I'm ever to have babies/children..."

(Janeway holds out her arms and Kes runs into them, whimpering.)
JANEWAY: Oh. Shush. It's going to be all right. Now, tell me. What is happening to you?
KES: Did the Doctor tell you he found something growing on my back?
JANEWAY: Yes, a growth of some kind.
KES: It's, it's the mitral sac. It's, it's where my child would grow. I'm going through the elogium, the time of change, when, when my body prepares for fertilisation.
JANEWAY: Humans go through the same kind of process. It's called puberty.
KES: But I'm too young. Much too young. It usually happens between the ages of four and five. I'm not even two yet.
JANEWAY: Listen to me. All your body's metabolic activity has increased. It's possible your reproductive processes are being accelerated as a result.
KES: I'm not ready.
JANEWAY: We're going to get you through this, Kes. The Doctor will monitor you constantly.
KES: But you, you don't understand. The elogium occurs only once. If I am ever going to have a child, it has to be now!

Ah, I'd almost remembered the exact line. I'm quite pleased with that. :D It does help that Kes was my favourite S1-S3 character so I'd watch her episodes more often than the others.
