Romance doesn't last, once you have a shared bank account.

It's either two people making pragmatic decisions, or one of them is stealing.

"I bought you flowers with the last of our money!"

"I ran out of gas on the freeway, because OUR credit card was overdrawn!"

"Sorry."

"Asshole."

yeah, this sounds like my (soon to be ex) husband

Just to be clear, most men know that romance can be as simple as waking up early, to make breakfast in bed for the person you care about.

:)

Dollars might make it easier, but thoughtfulness comes first.

WOW.
That is why I am so happy to be single. No matter how you live your life (success or failure; happiness or misfortune), you are the only one responsible there ... even if some compaise to blame the others or the society in which they live !

About the supposed Paris/Kim romance, I only see a beautiful friendship that has been forged over time. The two met at a moment when they considered themselves as outsiders (Tom Paris was considered as a pariah for all Starfleet officers and Harry Kim was a young and still an inexperienced enseign who joined the big league) but one thing was sure for both, they had to show their ability and quickly. It was a question of survival (and trust toward Janeway) for them
and they not only managed to merge in the mold quickly but they became both very important to In the functioning of the vessel. And all that, together, without any professional (different positions) or loving rivalry (different taste towards the women -> because yes, they are 100% hetero and viewers know it quickly: Tom is a womanizer... until he falls in love with B'Elena, of course and Harry is mushy!). But, they share some common grounds : they are both brilliant in their fields and desire to prove to the others that they are worth, loyal to those who they love/respect, both have a very big heart.
Even if I'm not fond of the character of Harry Kim, his friendship with Tom (and B'Elena) is nice to see (and actors seem not simulate it! :techman:)
But LOVE? Nope!

You mean they never shared the Brokeback Mountain simulation together?

My grandad V.R. 'Frakes' once told me ... he said, "2takes, my boy! Don't lose your head over a woman who spends your bread."

... Neither, I'm afraid! T'was a reference to the State of Matrimony, only. I was simply chiming in on that, since it seems to be an off-topic being discussed, at the moment.

Hey if you want marriage advice, I have plenty of examples of how a husband should NOT act LOL...but that's for another thread

It's a fact that Harry must have felt neglected when Tom got close to B'elanna. Remember when Harry asks Tom to go on a last suicidal mission together and Tom says that he has B'elanna now and gets all the suicidal missions he needs. You can see the feeling of betrayal on Harry's face.

I can understand that. The three of them were friends and they paired up leaving him the third wheel.

Let's not forget that Harry - OK? - HARRY, in "Lost Son" if I'm remembering the title right, had found himself ready to set up shoppe on the planet of women, without giving Tom a second thought - content to live out his remaining years with their lifetime supply of Hugs & Kisses. Oh! It was fine & dandy THEN, not hanging out with Tom, anymore. It was only when Harry discovered that the planet of women were into necrophilia, that hanging out with Tom mattered to him, again.

Except that Harry was suspicious of the planet of women from the very start. You can see him cringing at the idea of being touched. Ironically, it Harry's awkwardness around women that saved him that time.

Wasn't 'ready' to be with a woman, huh? I forget, how old was he, like 25? Couldn't Tom have mentored Harry on the fact that women like Men with some mileage? At 25, how could he expect to be forgiven by a woman, for not knowing what the hell he was doing? Yeah, Tom wasn't that good a friend to Harry, when you think about it, on those terms. He should've really kind of sat Harry down and told him, "you crazy bastard, you were voted a hot guy by women in some Supermarket tabloid! What are you thinking about? Go on ... enjoy all that a woman has to give an hombre!"

It wasn't a planet of women in Favourite Son, it was a planet of cousins and siblings, or so they said, when they were lying.

"We are the family you have been missing your entire life Harry, but don't worry, our society doesn't have any taboo against incest, so don't even think about how many women kissing you in next 10 minutes are actually your sister."

Miral Paris is going to be a sexually active adult by her 8th birthday.

Kim married Lynnis Paris to get back into Tom's inner circle, since a married family man doesn't have time to hang out much with a dopey child like bachelor, without it getting weird and competitive.

He's using Tom's kids to get to Tom, like a reverse Lolita.
