Best Episode of TAS

Irwin Allen made giants look amazing. Trek pulled it off with Apollo, I think it woul dhave worked in live action. Just can't think of a good reason why they should. Why have Giant Clones?

Because the Phylosians had been giants, generations ago. It was the disease Keniclius brought to them that resulted in their relative dwarfism. By their lights they were making clones that were, at last, proper size again.

(If we're going to start holding it against Animated Trek that it puts forth a striking, weird image with an only partly rationalized in-story justification we're forced into some awkward positions with Live-Action Trek.)

I think TAS is way goofier than TOS. It is clearly intended for children.

It was supposed to add a funny note to the episode.
I don't think humour was the point. The giant clone mimicked the oversized Phylosian ancestors. There is also the idea that a giant could be more indimidating than a normal sized Vulcan or human.

But the Vulcan was supposed toi be benevolent, wasn't he?

No, because Keniclius was planning to build an army to pacify the galaxy. He mistakenly thought superior Vulcan strength and discipline were ideal qualities for a galactic soldier. But he didn'ttake into account--as Kirk reminded him--Vulcan pacifism.

Keniclius' biggest mistake was in thinking he could impose a galaxy wide peace through sheer superior strength and indimidation. This never works.

On ENT Vulcans are rather aggressive, they almost start a war.

The hall of deceased ancestors is one of the more striking images in TAS.

Doesn't matter because ENT retconning has no bearing on how Vulcans were viewed in TOS and TAS.

TOS established Vulcans were agressive in the distant past--thousands of years, not the recent past. And a century past is recent history.

What I mean is that it's hard to assume that Vulcans are pacifists when we are shown evidence to the contrary.

Again ENT retconning has no bearing on how Vulcans were viewed in TOS and TAS.

This is partly why I simply ignore ENT or treat it as an alternate timeline--because it retconned or outright ignored what TOS established. Or you could see it as an altered continuity messed up by the meddling of the TNG crew in FC.

According to the authors of ENT they were trying their best to adhere to continuity, though.

It is an alternate reality caused by the temporal cold war of an identified future! It has no bearing or connection to TOS and Captain Kirk!
