So What Are you Reading?: Generations

I read a republished Science fiction novel that originally 1987 called Twistor by John Crammer it was an interesting look at physics and alternate universes . I really enjoyed reading this book. I hope I can find Einstein's bridge at the library sometime .

Minor correction: the author's name is John Cramer, with just one "m."

He's also a noted physicist and professor as well as a writer, and knows more about cutting-edge physics than I will ever know. I still remember him trying to explain quantum entanglement to me back in the eighties. :)

FYI: his daughter, Kathryn Cramer, is a noted SF editor and anthologist in her own right (and an old friend of mine).

I re-read the Dark Passions duology over the last few days. I've read it at least three or four times before and I still enjoy it. It's kind of shlocky and pulpy, but in a good way. I actually think I even liked it more after this read, and I already had remembered liking it. You have to overlook a lot of coincidences of characters coming together (or even a non Borg Annika still going by Seven due to a contrived reason) but that's part and parcel of the Mirror Universe. The scheming and plotting of the darker versions of beloved characters was a lot of fun. I'd love to see another installment in this series from Wright (even though it doesn't fit in with the main Litverse MU) although the series is self contained and ends well enough.

I just finished The Better Man, a ST novel by Howard Weinstein. I enjoyed it, especially lines like:

McCoy: "I should have told you about this in my quarters, not yours."
Kirk: "Why? Some kind of weird protocol?"
McCoy: "No, I've got a better liquor selection."

It's a rare McCoy-centric novel.

Started Captain's Peril. I want to finish up the Shatner books by the end of the year. I can already tell this trilogy is going to be rough. Almost the first 10% of this book is dedicated to a single orbital jump where it seems the point was to show that Kirk is better than Picard in every way possible and that Kirk can manipulate Picard at will.

Ill start on the final legg of "Feuer gegen Feuer", the first prometheus novel only to start on "Der Ursprung des Zorns".

I've just started The Baba Yaga (the third Weird Space book) by Una McCormack. I haven't read the first two, but Una's one of my favourite Trek writers, so I thought I'd give something else by her a go.

I was in the same boat when I read that book and I still enjoyed the hell out of it, despite not reading the other volumes in the series.

Please report back when you're finished. I'm quite curious about that one.

- I'm 17% in (my clunky old Kindle doesn't show page numbers etc), and so far I'm liking what I've read. The strange attitudes to pregnancy in higher echelon company staff is curious, and rather reminds me of some of Anne McCaffrey's 1960s-70s sci-fi.

- Will do! Although I'm pretty terrible at writing reviews, and tend to forget important plot points and such (which makes any re-read almost seem like reading anew).

Finished ENT: "Daedalus", moving on to ST ENT: "Daedalus's Children". It's currently on place 3 in my favorite Enterprise novels list, after By the Book and What Price Honor?.

I finished up Star Wars: Death Troopers, I enjoyed it a lot. I posted my thought thoughts over on the Star Wars books thread.
So I finished Death Troopers last night.
I like the fact that Shreiber actually spent quite a while with the new characters before he brought in Han and Chewie, it was a nice way to keep them from getting overshadowed.
I really like the original characters too, well the likeable ones any, and it seems to me like is important so we care about the characters as they are picked off by the zombies.
I've never really read horror/zombie books before, so I can't really judge it based on those, but as a Star Wars book and a book in general I thought it was really good.

Finally made it to Titan: The Hounds of Orion. I like Bennet's writing style because it doesn't detract from the story. Sometimes I find myself paying more attention to a writer's style than the actual story and the writing could be extremely good. I'll find myself doing the 'oh wow that fight scene was great' only having to go back to read it again just to find out what actually happened. With his work, it's just one smooth read from beginning to end which is how I wish I could write.

That may make no sense. Maybe it's something only wannabe writers do.

Wow, you really do read fast. I'm still in the 22nd century..

Also: Orion's Hounds is probably my favorite Titan novel. Good job, Christopher!
