Which Bird of Prey Bridge Set did you prefer?

The bridge set in TSFS and TVH are drastically different. The TVH was build for that film. It seems to follow a layout similar to that used on Federation Starship bridges. It's size seems large for such a small ship.

If memory says TSFS bridge set was borrowed. It has the Captain sitting on a daises behind all but one workstation. This bridge is cramped.

I like the TVH bridge, as this became the traditional Klingon-style bridge for subsequent films and series. However, I also liked the TSFS bridge and wonder how things would have turned out had the Kruge-Romulan angle been left in the final film.

Of the two I suppose I like the bridge from TVH better, but I think the TSFS bridge is more "Klingon." I just rationalize the TVH bridge in my mind as an auxiliary bridge that Kirk's crew adapted to their purposes.

But honestly, my favorite Klingon bridge is the one we saw at the beginning of TMP. I could imagine an entire movie set on that bridge.

My own rationalization is that the SFS bridge is the auxiliary bridge, as it has equipment in it that isn't 'bridge' equipment, like the viewer they watched Valkris' pirated video of the Genesis report on, that serves no other purpose, that ordinarily would be in a secure viewing room.

Although less detailed, I prefer the bridge from TSFS. The subsequent Klingon bridges looked too similar to Federation starship bridges.

I agree completely, FormerLurker. I've heard people rationalize that Kirk's crew modified the bridge to make it easier for them to pilot, but the reality is they would have kept it as in tact as possible for Starfleet Intelligence to analyze to learn all they could about Klingon technology, etc.

I also agree with JonnyQuest037, in that my all time favorite Klingon bridge was from the beginning of TMP. I remember being somewhat disappointed that we didn't see that bridge in TSFS.

The STIII bridge is much more unique (since EVERY SINGLE Klingon bridge since is based on the STIV version) and has the benefit of not looking as rusty and old. So it gets my vote.

I can see why they stuck with the STIV look, you can get multiple characters in frame which is pretty important unless all you really want is Christopher Lloyd looking menacing.

I'm sure there's a set on deck plans I've seen somewhere on the internet that has the TVH set as ship's bridge whilst the TSFS set is a combat/tactical centre, or something like that, with one being directly above the other (though can't remember which).

From a design standpoint I find the TSFS bridge more interesting (though maybe if we'd seen it be reused as often as the TVH bridge was, my opinion would be different), and I think it's unfortunate that the bridge inexplicably changes between films.

The two bridges connect to different psyches of the Klingons. in TSFS, Kruge sat above all of his crew and as referred to as "My Lord." Once The Next Generation came about and through Worf we explored the Klingon society, this wasn't repeated. TVH bridge was the template for the Klingons sets from then on. Klingon honor was introduced and the concept of advancing in rank through challenging direct superiors.

Each bridge works for its movie. It would have looked quite strange for Kirk and company to be on that bridge for TVH.

Now we just need someone to explain why the Klingon bird of prey and the 22nd century USS Franklin have virtually the exact same layout

I think the TSFS bridge was great for the type of character that Kruge was.

I also envision both the TSFS and TVH bridges as existing in different areas of the same ship. That's the only thing that makes sense in-universe.

If the set hadn't been redressed as the Enterprise's photon torpedo room, we probably would have.

The K't'inga bridge in TMP.

Whoops, sorry? I mean the one in TVH. It's kinda sorta like what a TOS battle bridge might have been like meets a Klingon bridge.

They may not have had the plans for it anymore. I have the blueprints (somewhere), but without a legend with a size guide, I wouldn't be able to build one, and I don't think my blueprints have that.

Unfortunately the corresponding video clip has been taken down, but about a year ago someone posting in another thread over in the Trek Art forum made the discovery that the Amar bridge/torpedo room was redressed to be a gas laboratory in the pilot episode of MacGyver (which aired in 1985). They stripped out the more spacey-looking elements and painted the whole thing white, but there was enough of the original set left that an eagle-eyed fan would know what it was. After so many modifications, the set may have been completely unusable to the TVH production crew.
