At the time, Christopher Reeve's face didn't look like Superman's or Clark's. It didn't matter in the slightest as far as the films were concerned, but youngster I found it somewhat jarring when Reeve's likeness began to be reflected in comic books.

The no.1 reason Routh was cast was because of his passing resemblance to Christopher Reeve.

The poll is invalid because there's no Kirk Alyn, John Haymes Newton and Gerard Christopher option. And before someone says that John Newton and Gerard Christopher played Superboy and not Superman, (a) they were older than a lot of the actors who portrayed Superman and (b) so did Tom Welling and Welling never even once wore the costume!
I vote for Brandon Routh with Christopher Reeve close second.
Reeve was the best Supes. Routh/Cain tied for best CK.

I thought Tom Welling had put on the Superman suit in the series finale for "Smallville". With or without the suit, he was Superman, especially during the show's later seasons.
More like they put his head on a supersuit, from what I understand.
Tom Welling was never Superman because he never wore the supersuit. After 10 long years, all we got in the end was this lousy CGI shot.
But if it makes people feel better he portrayed Clark Kent the longest than any other actor.

I would say Christopher Reeve he really looks like silver age curt swan superman. Brandon Routh looks like him too. For me George Reeves do sent particularly resemble superman all that much especially with that nose of his. Cavill sorta looks like Byrne superman.
As in every Super-poll, Reeve & Cavill with honorable mention for Alyn.

IDK - over the years it seems the artists adapt Superman's 'look' to whomever has popularly been portraying him in the various serials, films, TV shows, etc. over the decades; so is it really a fair question after nearly 70+ years of filmed 'Superman' portrayals?
