Nana Visitor says no to Vedek Kira

"Visitor noted that in novels that have picked up where DS9 left off, Kira became a Vedek. Visitor wanted absolutely nothing to do with that. She wanted Colonel Kira to be commanding her own ship."

I like the new DS9 novels nearly as much as the old ones but the Vedek Kira thing was... Weird to say the least. I was okay with most of the other changes but Vedek Kira... No...

Well shes still a Vedek in the current Novel'verse isn't she? Whos to say she won't become Kai there as well.
Well, she could become a Kai in the future of the novel-verse but that doesn't change the fact that STO plays in a different universe or at least timeline than the novels.

I never said they did.

I should have said universe instead of time period. But I didn't mean they were the same.

Kira becoming a Vedek is my least favorite change DRGIII made in the later Relaunch novels. I know she was always religious, but I just never saw her as the Vedek type. I know it was supposed to be because of all of the stuff that happened with the Ascendants, but it still didn't really work for me.

Ditto I absolutely agree with you Jd. I preferred seeing Kira serving in the military instead of a Vedek.

And in STOs universe.

One of the many failings of STO...

She was the right hand lady of the emissary, and was always extremely religious. She was always heading that way, even if I too would prefer her to be closer to how I remember her. She basically has choice between embracing her religion further, or turning into a crazy hermit always telling the faithful to get off her lawn and stop asking her about the emissarys ball.

Frankly, I would prefer the hermit option. Or just her rising through the ranks of military.

Did you mean that the way it sounds? (I've always thought of that baseball as "The Orb of the Emissary.")

I was aiming for vague double entendre. Would have gone with balls, but would have hated having to talk about the baseball episode. So stuck with the singular. Orb of the emissary is good...

Sisko..has only got one ball...
The other, is in Ba'havel,
His mother, the silly prophet bugger,
Sodded off when he was small.....

-old Pagh Wraith marching song.

Where do you after commanding the most significant outpost in the sector, historically, militarily and religiously? We all know how admiralty transfers work out in Trek.
Kira the warrior monk has a nice ring to it, and many of the Bajoran clergy must have been in the resistance.

I have this odd feeling she won't remain a vedek for much longer, and the minute she's available for voiceover work, I bet the Kai thing won't be quite so cut and dried either.

What voiceover work?

What voiceover work?

If she turns up to voice Kira in STO, I will be surprised if she remains Kai, or even if she does, I would not be surprised if she doesn't zap someone. Or if the animations can handle it, smack someone.
It's a big if mind you.

My main problem with Vedek Kira is even if you accept that Kira would leave a military life and go into the religious order (which isn't completely out of character) how did she get to a position that's roughly analogous to a Bishop in only five years or so?

But then I guess Star Trek in general is never the place for realistic rank progression.
