Rename TNG

Technically, but only in one movie and not in the series proper. And there was DEFINITELY no Kirk by the end of the movie.
He DID appear in Generations, so there is no "technically" about it.

Whether or not it was a good appearance is another matter.....

And if we are speaking "technically," he appeared in DS9, as well.

That just leaves Voyager and Enterprise, "technically." But "technically," he was mentioned in Voyager.

Don't talk down to me.

You want to get technical, fine, let's. This thread is in the TNG TV series forum. Kirk did not appear in the TV series. He was mentioned once or twice, yes, but did not appear.

He did appear in a movie, featuring the TNG cast, entitled Star Trek: Generations. Not 'The Next Generation'. If you'd like to discuss that movie, head on over to the Movies I-X forum.

Yes, he did appear in DS9 via reused TOS footage, but at the end of the day it was a lighthearted joke made from the point of view of naming a new Star Trek TV show in 1987, not a denial of the existence of Captain Kirk.

I thought it'd raise a chuckle or two, not start a row. I'll think again in future before making such a grievous error.

Star Trek. No, really. In 1987, my local newspaper weekly TV book listed the new TNG as simply Star Trek. They did this for years. Of course, once it had been on for a year or so, many believed that it really had ascended to be the ONLY Star Trek. Perhaps whatever the current Trek is should be called Star Trek, with each iteration getting a formal name upon ending? Like TOS and TAS did.

Star Trek: Everybody Hates Wesley

or

Star Trek: The New Voyages (sorry Mr Cawley)

NV would have been just fine for TNG. It works a lot better in the context of a new crew and ship, where as Phase II works best as the next stage of the same ship/characters as originally designed.

"Star Trek: See an American-esque Spaceship be Captained by a Frenchman who quickly adopts 100% British Mannerisms; and for all intents and purposes becomes British in the end."
