Will there be a pass the torch charater?

I think Gary Graham's time in official Trek is over.

As for Greenwood and Quinto, I seriously doubt it. Greenwood is much older than Pike would be in that era, and Quinto is probably too expensive now.

I'd rather not see any torch-passing. This series needs to separate itself from Berman era and nu- Trek, and stand on its own merit.
Age didn't seem to be much of a problem when they cast James Cromwell in the role of Zefram Cochrane.

Cochrane not "a day over thirty-five".

Cochrane between the age of 24-33.

Greenwood could easily play Pike.

According to the official release, TOS takes place about 150 years after Enterprise. Discovery take place 10 years prior to TOS, so that would make it 140 years after Enterprise. Being this series is not about the Kelvin timeline, you can forget about any of those characters. Forget about any characters from TNG, VOY, or DS9, unless they travel back in time. Highly unlikely.
Could T-Pol make an appearance? Not sure how long Vulcans live, however, if you recall during the Enterprise series, T'Pol says something to Archer about being old enough to be his grandmother, which means she's already kind of old.
Regardless, J'olene Blalock holds a grudge against Paramount for the way they ended the series (bad enough that it was on UPN). She has only attended a couple of cons. Plus, she married a millionaire so there is no financial incentive for her to associate any further with the franchise. Kind of unfortunate.

Actually, Zefram said he was an old man and dying when he crashed. He was rejuvenated and de-aged in that TOS episode.

DIS takes place around 2255 while enterprise ended in 2155 so it's "only" 100 years.

T'Pol was born in 2088 (she said she was 66 to Trip at the very end of season 3, which was set in early 2154), which would make her 167 years old by 2255. A Vulcan lifespan is about 200 years so she could very much be alive when Discovery comes along.

Now that I think about it, it would be awesome to see Jolene as T'Pol again, even if just to pass the torch, and even in old age makeup. :vulcan:

She could be the Vulcan Ambassador to the Federation, before Sarek took that position. Her experience with the man different races of the early Federation would make her ideal for the role. Logical.

On the other hand, I always got the impression the Vulcan higher-ups didn't trust her much, even after she saved 'em.

That may have changed in ninety years, though. I'd love to see T'Pol in the first episode. I really hope they can manage it. Or Phlox. Either one would be great.

There's no need to name the character, be like McCoy in Farpoint

Preference 1) Jolene Blalock and a very old Connor Trinner in a scene on Vulcan
Preference 2) A video message from a UFP President played by Scott Bakula

Given how well the fan-service was done in NuTrek (especially in '09 and Beyond), I suspect we'll see it here too. And I suspect it will be good.

I see T'Pol in a more recurring role like Soval down the road. She could also be the torch-passer, but I'm guessing they will show the passing of the torch in a more abstract manner. Easter eggs will be much subtler. Or I could be wrong and the 3rd or 4th ep will be called "The Naked Then"

Making full use of not being on network TV to challenge game of thrones?
