No Man's Sky

Angry Joe 's review pretty much sums up my opinion, especially at the 10 minute mark where he goes through the list of things Sean said that did not appear in the game.

This summed up a lot of what I feel is lacking in the game at this point also, I still can't get over the whole, I'm supposed to be the one seeing all these things no one else has ever seen yet there are outposts, etc. all over the place. It just breaks the immersion of exploring for me. I've stated that in previous posts. There is enough to the game that I'll check in with it from time to time to see whats changed.

It being a video game makes the whole unexplored by anything/one but you problematic. Who wants to make 500 trips between each planet and moon in any given star system and the nearest trading post that could be hundreds of light years away to cash in resources?

There are just certain things that have to give when playing a video game.

Here's yet another video about this...... Hmmmmmmm

Every day some person puts up a new video about this. It's quite crazy.

I enjoy the game. It is great fun for me. Did they oversell it? Yeah. Are they the first to oversell? Not by a long shot. Have I bought shitty games before? Yup. I get over it and move on. Heck, I'm still waiting for Madden to get offensive/defensive line interactions right and I've been buying it for twenty years.

"Outrage" over inconsequential bullshit has become the Western worlds leading industry.

I see No Man's Sky as the first step in a great new direction for video games. Not perfect by any stretch of the imagination, but there will be others that follow in the path being laid by them. Well, if internet "critics" don't scare companies away from doing something other than generic shooter #147.

In future patches, I'd like to see them add more to the exploration side. At present, it's only a mild shooter game, half decent exploration game, but if you just relax (smoke some pot) and just play the game leisurely it's fun.

I agree with you actually, I do see this game as a first step towards more Immersive games centered around exploration, It's cool that you like the game as it is, as you have stated "It's not a game for everyone". At the end of the day it is just a game, so those of us who didn't like it as much as we hoped....well, it is what it is. If you like space exploratory games, you should try a game called "Out There" for Android/IOS if you get the chance.

These folks really need to get a life.

Considering that these folks make a living completely on revenue from producing game-related videos, yes it IS their life. From what I have seen pretty much everyone agrees that the game:
  • is ground breaking and revolutionary
  • only has the bare necessities to be considered a game
  • has a lot of room for additions and improvements
  • has misrepresented and in a few cases out right lied about the game's features
  • is a new direction for future games to expand upon

I find the amount of outrage baffling...
The "Sean Murray lied" people are so vile and angry...
As if this is the first time someone oversold and over promised things for a game...

That's quite true. Ubisoft never cops this much bile when they put out amazing game trailers then the finished game is gimped to death graphically. They've done that a few times but never copped much in the way of vitriol.

Part of it is probably that Murray has been out in front of the marketing, there is a face for people to affix their rage too.

I was with my Dad in 1982, when he bought Pac-Man for the Atari 2600. Sometimes you buy a lemon and just have to move on.

Ubisoft doesn't get much vitriol? Did you live under a rock for the last couple of years?

No...... The only game I remember them copping much flak for, mainly because I got sucked into the game was Watch Dogs. That's the only Ubisoft big name title I have bought in recent years. That's also the only one I know of where people blew their stack about gimped graphics and lying trailers..

I would ask again what was "lied" about.

To be clear, "lied" doesn't mean "I took something out of context and let my imagination run wild with it," as much as some people might believe it does.

I think Murray comes across as awkward and overexcited about the game, but there is nothing where I felt I was "lied" to. It all seems pretty familiar to what I saw in pre-release play videos. The only thing where I think they stumbled, was on being able to play with other people. That was likely just a feature that got pulled late in the development process.
