Mine; Tuvok.
Personally I don't think we had enough Tuvok episodes. I found myself disliking the Vulcans from TNG and DS9 but Tuvok and Vorik changed my perception.

My favourite was the Doctor. He was the most well rounded character by the end, being as by that point Seven had been repeating lessons of humanity and stalled a bit.

I agree with you about there not being enough Tuvok episodes though. Tim Russ was excellent in the role, and Tuvok was definitely underused.

I'm on Voyager now in my big franchise rewatch, and just finished season one. It's nice to see all the characters getting things to do at this point in the show, before things went south. It's surprising how tolerable Neelix and Chakotay are here.

Obviously Janeway for me, and Seven as a close second. Though I pretty much ignore Human Error and Endgame as they don't seem completely in character. B'Elanna and Tom would be tied for third and Kes would be at the very bottom.

I felt it was exactly the opposite. I'm not one of those complete Neelix-haters, but I couldn't handle him in season one. He was a rather poorly written character along with Kes then and only became a more interesting character when Kes was gone and the Naomi Wildman story started. Especially in season 6, there were some really good episodes about him.

Also Chakotay. Apart from the fact that I also liked him simply nodding at everything in the first seasons, because DAMN HE'S CHAKOTAY, his character had much more backround story by the last seasons. I love his character and I will always do so.

But I agree with you: There could've been much more from both characters - only in the first instead of last seasons in my opinion.

I actually like him more in season one, particularly in The Cloud when he gets fed up with the idea of the ship going back to the creature. I also liked him and Kes bringing food on the bridge. I really love him in Jetrel when we find out what happened to his family as well.

By season two, his rampant jealousy of Tom's crush on Kes really turns me off him, and I find him harder to like. You do get some episodes here and there which are Neelix centred that are actually quite good, but aside from that? Meh.

Exactly his and Kes's part in The Cloud annoyed me so much. Jetrel was okay but it could've been much more emotional (concerning his family) if we wouldn't have been "thrown" into the story and they never came back to it.
We've got a different taste!

But I completely agree with you on the season 2 Neelix-plot! The who jealousy thing was terrible and I was glad when it was over.
I thought you'd talked about the first seasons (1, 2 and maybe 3) and not only the first season. That was part of my confusion. ;)

Chakotay's my most favourite VOY character and amongst my most favourite in the franchise, as well. But to the casual viewer, who only, occassionally, watched the show, it might've been somewhat unclear if he was such an outstanding First Officer because of himself, or ... because of his crush on The Good Captain. That's another reason I wouldn't have had him be so interested in her. Had they a tryst in the episode "Resolutions," just to sort of have them scratch that itch and get it out of the way, that would've been just fine, with me. But 7 season's worth of his aching ... his longing ... his yearning ... was a bit much.

7 episodes of that would've been a bit much, come to think of it. But Chakotay went for it, when some Deltan Quadrant beauty threw it at him and there were one or two actual cuties amongst them. Kellin, being my favourite, of the lot. Chakotay was pretty good in a fight, too, which adds interest. And finally, he was a spiritual Man. In a somewhat awkwardly represented way, perhaps, but nonetheless ... he explored Inner Space, as well as Outer Space. This franchise could've done with more of that. Maybe throw in characters who were unashamedly Christian and Jewish, too. That would've worked, for me. But Chakotay was cool and I thank Beltran for bringing him to Life.

Is there a reason why Kes comes lower on this list than some of the supporting cast? Not trying to find fault, just curious.

I know what you mean. Neelix was okay in the first season and became increasingly unlikeable until Kes left. But the show that made me start to like him more was Mortal Coil. After that I saw him in a new light.

That's me too really, except Janeway is in the mix somewhere too. A bit of an inconsistent leader, but Kate Mulgrew was always game.

I wrote this when I was re-watching series 5. I'm currently at the end of series 6. I basically went through the first characters I saw on the TV set, then remembered Kes from the beginning.
The Wildmans and Vorik are in there as I also like their characters, I wanted to see if anyone thought the same.
I'm one of the many that actually like Kes' character and was gutted when she left Voyager.:hugegrin:
