They've also said it was because they thought the traditional version of the Ancient One was to much of a stereotype and wanted to move away from that.
A handy excuse from a movie studio that's made thirteen movies (with a fourteenth coming soon), each and every single one of which star white men. I love the MCU, but their movie diversity record doesn't exactly give them much credibility here.

We've come to a place where we speculate on how to edit our movies for Chinese consumption. Sad.
Maybe we should reserve our indignation for the hundreds of millions of Chinese denied basic speech, religious, and political rights by their authoritarian government, rather than the fact that our mega-budget popcorn flicks are being tweaked to appease their censors. Despite what the movies playing at our multiplexes may suggest, the world doesn't always revolve around us Western geeks. ;)

That's kind of what I'm getting at, it's become so matter of fact that we now just drily discuss just how we can best censor movies to appease that authoritarian government.

We?

Is anyone here getting a cut of the box office?

The only benefit we get from China adding to the Body Odour is the now near certainty of a sequel.

Although on the flip side, it means that movies that don't get into China maybe don't get sequels.

I looked up the four minutes of extra footage in Iron Man 3.

Not English.

Just a man and a woman washing their hands before surgery.

"Sigh"

Hopefully the solid box office will lead to a sequal. I'd like to see a few more villains get captured by heroes in quick scenes. Please give us Enchantress vs Superman!

I hope this motivates WB to commit to a JL Dark film. That would be awesome.

SS is now sitting at #8 of the top 10 highest grossing films of 2016. Pushing past Kung Fu Panda 3, X-Men Apocalypse (which is sitting at #10) and the Chinese film The Mermaid. SS still has markets to open in overseas too. Germany and Japan being the biggest two left.

No more June.

No more enchantress.

it's not that she wasn't enchanting, it's that I hate it when they have to bend a sequel over backwards to bring back a dead character to the fore.

"Yes, this is June's twin sister April. She has a thing for taking her sister's boyfriends, so watch it Flag."

Suicide Squad 2: Capture The Flag.

Hahaha

Gandalf returned, why not Enchantress? Magic is magic. I don't think anything is out of the realm of the possible if magic exists in that universe. But in the end, just give me any magic user vs Superman. It's something that hasn't been done on film before.

I've seen this movie twice, but had to read just now that El Diablo died in the end.

I must have just assumed that he fell over and was going to get up in a bit.

My bad.

More readings are saying that June is a magical container.

Which means that the Enchantress, after getting "killed" can come back in a different body, or June can have the Enchantresses powers without having the enchantresses personality in tow.

No harm done. And I too didn't realize Diablo died until some time later. Just be sure to have your power ring charged. We may need it. Damn magic users...

The China thing did play a role in it, but at least according to the people involved it wasn't the whole reason they changed the character. They've also said it was because they thought the traditional version of the Ancient One was to much of a stereotype and wanted to move away from that.
Also, Batman Begins already did it. ;)

I've been wondering lately, maybe the Joker should be a metahuman of some kind? As in, at least be super-strong, and maybe have some low-level mind control powers?
His mind is in touch with the Chaos Dimension. This gives him extra-sensory insight (nice and vague) but has driven him mad like a character from a Lovecraft story.

Maybe you mishead?

Her name is "Cantina".

She REALLY likes Star Wars.

Most of the people I've shared drinks with in actual cantinas have never heard of Star Wars. The clientele on this world also makes the clientele in Star Wars look like something from a swanky reality television program.

They also changed The Mandarin, so this isn't the first time they've changed an Asian character to avoid stereotypes.

I know it's probably not what you mean, but we are already getting JLD movie.

Perhaps more relevant is the fact that Harley Quinn stabbed the Enchatress with Katana's sword, ie, the sword that captures the souls of its victims. Seems like a pretty obvioius setup for bringing her back in a sequel to me. In fact, given how absolutely no use was made of Katana's character at all and the fact that she, as a character, doesn't even fit into this group conceptually to start with, it would not surprise me at all to learn that the sword and its usefulness was literally the only reason the character was even included.
