Hey, everyone. I wanted to finally share a bit of information on a project I'm working on called Uncharted Galaxy. Being a huge fan of both Star Trek and video games, I -- like many of you -- have always felt there's been a severe shortage of quality Trek games. Uncharted Galaxy, while not related to the Trek IP, is my attempt to create the type of Trek game I've always wanted to play.
In Uncharted Galaxy, players will take command of a starship on its mission of exploration and discovery. Whether it's studying mysterious stellar phenomena, participating in diplomatic negotiations, diffusing a hostage situation aboard a derelict freighter, or leading humanitarian efforts on alien planets, the goal is to make a starship game about so much more than combat, combat, combat (though, yes, there will be combat!).
Players will be able to customize their character, senior officers, and other bridge crew members. They may, for example, choose to recreate the cast of their favorite science fiction TV series, if they're so inclined.
One of the things that was most important to me was that the player, as Captain, would not directly control things like maneuvering the ship and firing weapons. That's why you have a helmsman and tactical officer, after all! Instead, the player will issue commands to his or her crew which they will then carry out. You'll only directly control your character... at least for as long as they're alive. In the event of the death of a crewman, that character will be gone for good, including the Captain. If the Captain is killed, he or she will be replaced by their First Officer, whom the player will control from that point forward.
I've recently launched a website for posting updates on the game's progress. Please feel free to check it out at the link below, or browse the Uncharted Galaxy devlog thread on the Unity Forums where I'd been posting progress previously.
Since this is a group of people who I think would be particularly interested in this type of game, I'll also link new posts in this thread, along with occasional exclusive updates that may be of particular interest to the Trek community.
