History channel celebrates Star Trek's 50th Anniversary

Fan work or not, it seems odd that they should be able to use those without any proper citation, especially since the show itself wasn't on CBS's dime.

It seems to be a growing thing, though. See: CNN's use of Renegades.

Was it the one that was mostly black and you could just see B'Ellanna's head and Miral being held? That one really stuck out to me as I watched it and was wondering about it, I thought it was a cool picture but it seemed kind of strange/artistic for a Voyager publicity still and I was wondering how they got that effect. I guess it was Photoshop though, if that's the one you're talking about that is.

I didn't immediately recognize either Walter Koenig or Jonathan Frakes. I hadn't seen either one since their respective last ST movie appearance.

I wasn't surprised to hear the unstinting praise, from those spoke on the matter, for DS9. But I was surprised that a few of them, including Michael Dorn, openly made comparisons between DS9 and TNG. And unless I misunderstood, they essentially said that DS9 was fundamentally better than TNG.

I thought Paramount and CBS were going to do something official. But from what I gathered from other places, this is all there's going to be.

I don't know if there are any other tv programs on any other channel about the 50 years of Star Trek.

But there are three mainstream magazines, that I am aware of, that has a 50th anniversary Star Trek edition. They are Time, Newsweek and Entertainment Weekly. I saw them on the newsstand last month. They are probably worth reading, if you can get a hold of them.

I'm not sure if he meant DS9 was a better show (though maybe he does), I think he was just kind of saying that as an actor he felt he felt he got to do better work with his character on DS9.

Yeah, no one grew up to become a navigator because of Chekov.

Regarding the still of B'elanna holding a baby, I was slapping my forehead and wondering how I missed that during Voyager's run. So it was fan art. But they had this whole talk about the ethics of correcting the baby's forehead to spare her growing up looking like a Klingon. Was that from a real episode?

I'd never heard of The Making Of Star Trek either. I don't really get into Star Trek reading though (I just like watching/discussing) and don't have that much behind-the-scenes interest. I've only read one Trek book, it was a fiction novel and I probably wouldn't have read it if it weren't for the fact I was in county jail and had nothing better to do.

Say what you will about Ancient Aliens but I think it's pretty cool they got Londo Mollari to host the thing.

I did manage to see the 50th Anniversary documentary in question here, and for the most part there was nothing special to write home about. A few nice tidbits here and there, some stolen fan art, whatever Ike Eisenmann was doing there I don't know. As fans we know most of the stories behind the show(s), but it was kinda nice to see some of the cast and crew again.

That alone was worth the watch. I had no idea he had an idea for only Spock and McCoy to survive.

Just saw a commercial for the upcoming "Building Star Trek" documentary on Smithsonian Channel, sadly it doesn't look like it will be much better. The entire commercial was about how "Star Trek invented cell phones". Which (along with tablets) seemed to be one of the main talking points of the History Channel doc as well. I realize people are obsessed with their stupid devices but can't we just talk about Star Trek?
