News coming 8/10?

Seriously, Star Trek: Nemesis was produced in 2003! Basically since 13 years we only have prequels, prequel-boots, recreations and inbetween-quels. Everything focussing around recreating or explaining past events. Nithing to move on from.

Still hope it will be good, but holding my breath they will eventually produce a spin-off that picks up after Nemesis:rommie:

There's nothing wrong with the timeline. The problem with doing a prequel is that it severely restricts the writers in what they can and cannot do.

I'm actually more happy than I thought I'd be with news of a prequel. More TOS-era adventures sounds much more exciting than just another prequel.

Maybe I wouldn't be so much in the hands of a less capable showrunner.

People are already talking about the Sheliak Corporate. I didn't think Ensigns of Command was that popular of an episode.

Still, don't forget next year is the 30th anniversary of TNG. They could do something like that in tribute.
To be honest I liked the Sheliak and I like the idea of focusing on an uncommon enemy.

Im with Rahul and I'm surprised more people aren't. Don't get me wrong I'm looking forward to this new series and will probably enjoy it as all the others. But we keep shoehorning ourselves into a box that gets smaller and smaller like those Russian dolls where if we can FINALLY go forward again the sky's the limit.

Turnabout Intruder

I see.

Memory Alpha said:
Lester's line, "Your world of starship captains doesn't admit women", was taken by some to mean that women could not yet become starship captains by this time. However, it might also mean that women are not allowed to intrude on the discipline and burden of command—an interpretation borne out by Lester's regret over not being able to have "roamed the stars" with Kirk. Captain Erika Hernandez in ENT: "Home" showed that there were female captains in the pre-Federation era but there is no firm evidence either way of female captains existing at this time. A female captain would appear 17 years later on the bridge of the USS Saratoga in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, and of course Captain Kathryn Janeway would take command of the USS Voyager on Star Trek: Voyager, 102 years after this episode takes place. In addition, approximately 75 years after this episode takes place, a woman would captain the USS Enterprise itself (or rather, the USS Enterprise-C), Captain Rachel Garrett (TNG: "Yesterday's Enterprise").

Retcon Time.

Nope, in fact, I think I'll join you too in the jumping up and down part, Spider! :techman:

Um....KTR, the last time we partnered up in a forum, there were literal riots in threads. Let's not do that again. At least not until the third year, by that time the riots will be in full swing and we'll never even be noticed.

I am pissed too. Put it this way, I invested 14 years over 21 seasons plus a few movies on TNG era Trek. That is my Trek. TOS was good for what it was as are the new movies, but they are missing all of that great development of species and the Trek universe. They better plan the next show in that universe and move the story forward.

Obviously I will watch it and probably enjoy it, but this is the second Trek show reveal in a row that I have been bummed out by because it was a damn prequel.

Because heaven forbid there be any limitations on what a writer can or can't do. Clearly good stories can only be told if a writer has unlimited freedom.

Fuck it, I'm excited just to be getting new Star Trek on TV. The galaxy is a damn big place, and little of it was explored in Pike/Kirk's time, and we only saw small portions of it in TNG. I honestly don't think the setting of the series is gonna be as restrictive as some might think.

There's probably a million good stories you can do in 2255 but a good trillion stories await in the 25th century and forward
