CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

It's very hard to understand the Axafaithful. The people who run Axanar can't even get donor perks mailed out; how in the heck do the Axafaithful expect them to produce a movie even IF they were to prevail in the lawsuit (which they won't). It really seems to be complete denial

It's been about a month since Alec went into self-imposed radio silence.

Part of that nondisclosure agreement was to wear mittens 24/7.

In their minds the perks have been sent and the film made, they simply have to convince existence of their sincerity.

I'm sure I read on the Axamonitor a tweet from some fan promising more financial support only recently. The cynic in me wonders if the tweet was a fake one designed to inspire others to lay down more money ('honking geese' and all that) but if it were a genuine message then there really is no grasp on reality there at all. I'm all for people feeling altruistic but I wish some of these financially reckless individuals would direct their generosity towards a worthwhile charity and spread some positivity in that direction rather than the Alec Peters Retirement Fund.

Methinks Lord Alec needs to spend some quality time with Gul Madred......

Methinks Lord Alec needs to spend some quality time with Gul Madred......

That would make discovery interesting, although perhaps counterproductive.

Q. Good morning. My name is Gul Madred. I represent the plaintiffs in this action. Could you state your name for the record.
A. Alec Peters, Jr.

Q. What is your date of birth?
A. September 3, 1960.

Q. Are you the currently the principal owner of Ares Studios?
A. Yes.

Q. What are the Federation’s defense plans for Minos Korva?
[Winston & Strawn Attorney]. Objection. Calls for speculation, lack of foundation---

Q. Mr. Peters, how many lights do you see?
[Attorney]. Objection--

If I recall correctly, the Cardassian courts serve as a venue to publicly confirm and support the decision made prior to the "trial."

I don't see the relevance. The "layman" won't be deciding the legal merits of the case.

IIRC, the case will be decided by a jury (if it comes to that, which I believe it will), and I do believe that Alec Peters will probably win if it does. He is winning the PR battle.

Do you think there is a PR battle? My impression has been that the studios are in the longer term gonna muckrake him in court, point by point showing the distortions towards profit and copyright violation. I think they will stipulate his fandom but say the trial is not about his fandom, or the fandom of any donor. His fervent fans will have to deal while the press rediscovers the fact that the fundraising was intended for salaries and a studio atop the film (many times stated by Alec online) and the Axanar statements didn't square with the records (such as claims of being nonprofit).

Is he though?
Also: when one side isn't really talking, is it really a battle?
And in court cases, it's not tweets, but facts and lawyers doing the talking.

I doubt if it goes to trial, Alec wins.

That was why I was asking what our legally trained and jounnalistic posters thought. It looks worrying when you see the Reason interview, which WE see as biased in Axanars favour, but looks reasonable to the general public who don't know all the ins and outs, and who may end up serving on said jury, if the case gets that far. I was surprised that you said that in reply, @oswriter.:)

Part of me sees C/P just biding their times, cos AP and Peters are royally screwed, but I have a niggling doubt that he gets out from under this with something!

How much of the general public even know what "Reason" is?
