I don't think that power marketing ST: Beyond would have made an appreciable blip, but they could have at least tried to do some viral marketing, the kind of stuff that builds interest in the 18-24 market and, you know, generates new fans.
That the first trailer was so poorly received, yet upon review is actually a pretty good representation of the movie may have been exactly what made Paramout think they had a dud on their hands. There is no doubt Paramount made a blunder of its advertising for Beyond. In many ways Paramount acted like it had a dud on its hands. The only buzz surrounding Beyond was negative until about a month before the movie came out which is far too late to get people excited.
The first teaser trailer was poorly received and Paramount should have immediately responded by putting out a new one. I remember the first time I saw that trailer, it was the only time I had ever seriously considered not seeing a Trek movie in theaters.
I'm hitting a certain frustration point with this film's reception. I just don't get it.I love how some folks are still assuming that Beyond is/will be a "dud."

You shut yer dirty mouth...So, why not just go, enjoy the film and leave the fiscal worries to Paramount?
Because some of us are interested in and enjoy discussing the business behind our interests.STID was reported a "disappointment" and they still made BEY. So, why not just go, enjoy the film and leave the fiscal worries to Paramount?
And it's like, at least when I paid my $12, I got to see a movie in return. That's better than some got who paid out more money than that. The only people who can determine the financial future of this franchise is Paramount.

Hey, I'm good for a Blu-ray when they come out. Director's cut, too, if there is one.I'm a little bemused. I wanted to go into some speculation when I looked at the thread over my morning coffee(s), but after looking at the numbers..... it doesn't seem as doom and gloom as this thread makes it sound.
It's not a massive earner, but it's doing alright - and there's still some time to go, other markets to explore and home video releases to hit in. I don't think Paramounts going to lose any sleep (or money) over it.
hopefully it will do a TGEN in china and push it into the 350-400m rangeI think people are referring to it being a 'dud' financially, which quite frankly it's looking like it is. I think it's going to struggle to get past 300 million worldwide. I'm not knocking the film, I think it's awesome but I'm struggling to see where another 200 million in worldwide box office is going to come from at this point.
