Star Trek Discovery

I meant more his writing...granted I drifted off enterprise so am perhaps not hugely knowledgeable. And yes...his accent is what my father calls Transatlantic. Non specific vaguely British like Pierce Brosnan.
Wasn't he also big on family history, a bit of an aristocratic person, and turned out to be a spy?
I don't think Reed's accent was transatlantic. It's the same as Hugh Grant's accent. Presumably there is a bit of the UK where people speak like that.
I don't think he was an aristocrat, but he was proud of his family's naval tradition.

Lesson of today: Never make a joke about white people on a board full of old white men fighting to be the "MOST NOT RACIST!!!!!11!!".
Yeah, I noticed that.

"You said something which if I squint looks vaguely like something that hasn't undergone sensitivity training - BURN THE WITCH!"

In the land of the humourless, the ironic man gets punched in the face a lot.

The model looks great. Definitely grew on me since the reveal. The horizontal nacelles are what made it seem odd at first but it is also what makes it look like it is different from all other ships.

I could swear that the teaser trailer shows the nacelles pivoting slightly similar to Voyager's. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

People - this means we might (eventually) get everything everyone wants.

People who preferred MacQuarrie's other design? Might turn up in the show, as other Starfleet ships.

People who wanted a show set in another era? Might get another Star Trek, Marvel/Netflix style.

People who wanted a show set in the Kelvin timeline? Might get another show contemporary to the films (USS Reliant?).

People who wanted a post-TUC show? Might get that, complete with motion picture era tech.

People who wanted something post-VOY? Might get that, maybe set on the Enterpise J or whatever.

Friends, Romulans, countrymen (and trekkies), this may only be the beginning, of a large Star Trek TV empire, like Marvel's multiple dramas on Netflix. I'm already happy to be getting a design I always wanted to see on screen, in an era that seems to be one of the ones I most wanted (early Federation). But I also wanted a show set specifically in the Kelvin timeline, to expand that setting. I also wanted maybe a post-TUC show, set during the era of the Stargazer or Enterprise C. I also thought eventually (eventually), a Klingon-only show, or Romulan-only show, migth be good. We might get it all.

^...I hope not. Franchise "fatigue" is what killed TV Trek before. We certainly don't need multiple series at this point. Never more than one in production at a time.

The franchise fatigue was more a result of the same people being in charge over and over again. The marvel model, as a competing example, has different people in charge of each show. AoS, DD, JJ, LC, TD, IR all have different writers and show runners. TNG, VOY, ENT mostly all had the same writers. I think that helps shake things up quite a bit.

Yeah, I would agree.

In this era of shared universes, it seems almost a certainty that CBS have at least considered a Marvel-style model (though to be honest, Trek was kind of doing this 20 years ago, way before it was even a "thing").

Is this official or anything?

I really like the basic shape. But these enourmus, brute and bulky details (especially the saucer) still make it look awful. If they could refine them, make them more delicate and elegant, more aesthetically pleasing, I think we might have a nice new ship here!
(Oh, and move the nacelles a little upward. Doesn't need to be full height. Just have the nacelles a teeny tiny little bit higher than the nacelle pylons!)

Rick Berman fatigue, not franchise fatigue.

I think CBS All-Access will end up producing another Star Trek show to premiere around the autumn period one way or another, to prevent people from signing up for three months and then ditching it for the next nine months.

Maybe it could be an animated series with the Kelvin Enterprise crew. Maybe it'd be a bunch of one-offs, a TNG/DS9/VOY crossover miniseries one year, then a Captain Sulu miniseries, a Captain Worf miniseries, a "Section 31" miniseries like that one CBS executive once threw out there, who knows.

They seem to be pushing the idea of spinoffs, and telling us how valuable this brand is, to run alongside Discovery during the year.
