    So BEYOND is now out.

If you've seen it, where does it rank in your personal list of favorite Trek films?

The "I have to watch it thirty more times before I can decide" goes without saying. Even still, give us your rough estimate that's subject to change.

I always rank mine in tiers and I'll offer my Top 5. If it's not in your Top 5, give us your best approximation. Thanks in advance!

Here's my new Top 5 -- always subject to change...sometimes depending on my mood, of course ;)

    1 -- TUC
    2 -- FC
    3 -- BEYOND
    4 -- TWOK
    5 -- TSFS

It's 5th for me but I have only seen it once.

    1) TUC
    2) TVH
    3) FC
    4) TWOK
    5) BEYOND
    6) 09
    7) Generations

    And then the rest.

I would rank it 11th of 13 in front of only Nemesis + Insurrection.

I'm very torn about the film. It had some truly great character moments, but it is very much a film directed by the director of the Fast + Furious franchise...Far to much ridiculous action. The film rarely pauses to catch its breath from a seemingly endless series of cgi chases/action.

The film contained the two worst scenes in the long history of the film franchise.

1/ The Beastie Boys Sabotage blaring to defeat an alien attack. This is the worst scene ever filmed in the history of ST films. I was cringing when I saw it. Like F+F films it is trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

2/ Kirk popping wheelies to distract the bad guys...Sweet Jesus, this was far worse than anything I expected.

Not to say this film didn't have its moments, because it certainly does. As a matter of fact the best moments in this film rank with the best of any of the films. It's just that this is ST on steroids. A mediocre attempt to appeal to the Fast + Furious/Transformers crowd...That is sad, because ST simply put is better than that.

I'd give Beyond 3 out of 5 stars.

It is holding 1st position for me.

    1. Beyond
    2. Star Trek (2009)
    3. Into Darkness
    4. Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
    5. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home

    And so on.

It's heart was in the right place but strict time constraints I believe prevented a smoother film from being put together.

I'd divide Star Trek films into 3 groups: Good, Ok and Mediocre.

I'd place Star Trek Beyond at the top of the 'Ok' group.

3 out of 5 and an honorary 4th star simply due to Lin, Pegg, Jung and Abrams picking up the pieces after Orci left the director's chair and got a film out in 19 months!

I'll close by saying I am absolutely confident if given another chance and a more generous development time frame, the same team can deliver an even better product next time.

Roughly third, but will watch it again to settle my opinion.

    1) The Undiscovered Country

    2) First Contact

    3) Beyond

    4) The Voyage Home

Then everything pretty much bunched up, with TFF and TMP sitting some way below.

    3. Star Trek - The Motion Picture (9/10)
    4. Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan (9/10)
    5. Star Trek VI - The Undiscovered Country (9/10)
    6. Star Trek Beyond (8/10)
    7. Star Trek III - The Search for Spock (8/10)
    8. Star Trek - First Contact (7/10)
    9. Star Trek IV - The Voyage Home (7/10)
    10. Star Trek V - The Final Frontier (6/10)

    13. Star Trek - Insurrection (3/10)
6th place does not sound that good but "Beyond" is not far behind second place. It's a very good film but like "The Search for Spock" it has the problem to follow two movies which I rate excellent. Of course it's very possible I will rate "Beyond" higher after additional viewings.

As of right now I'd rank them:

    1. TMP / Beyond
    2. TWOK
    3. 2009 / Into Darkness
    4. Voyage Home

    5. TUC

    The rest is forgettable crap.

Nope. And no matter how many times you say this, it won't make it true. It was a high point for both me and the audience I saw it with as plenty of people were moving their heads to the beat when it started.

I've had my fill of pompous classical music. I am more than happy to get something new and fresh in Trek besides public domain music when it comes to what the crew listens to.

Really, cause it was far more awesome that I was expecting. Far, far, far, far, faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar better than that shitty dune buggy Picard was driving.

Will probably shift around a bit over the coming days as I think about it more, but for the moment:

    1: The Undiscovered Country
    2: The Wrath of Khan
    3: First Contact
    4: The Voyage Home
    5: The Search for Spock
    6: Star Trek Beyond
    7: The Motion Picture
    8: Insurrection
    9: Star Trek
    10: Generations
    11: The Final Frontier
    12: Nemesis
    13: Star Trek Into Darkness

It's odd. I like a select few of the Trek movies, but I kind of rate them on separate categories from one another. Letsee...

    1. WoK
    2. Beyond
    3. TVH
    4. UC
    5. SfS
    6. 2009
    7. Into Darkness (only saw once though...)
    8. TMP
    9. Generations
    10. FF
    11. First Contact
    12. Insurrection
    13. Nemesis

But it's a little hard, because I can rate TWOK-SFS-TVH as one big beautiful experience split into three inseparable parts that makes up the experience of the Movie era of Trek canon history. Because that trilogy is so linked to the Original Series, it's hard to rate it any lower than my top category. However, I REALLY like the new directions being set by the reboot movies. The only way it doesn't make it to the top immediately is because it doesn't have all the original crew behind it. But the new movies, especially BEYOND, feel more like Star Trek than Star Trek has been allowed to feel since The Voyage Home.

This may change on a rewatch, Into Darkness dropped quite a few spots on multiple viewings, but my initial feelings on it put it in my top five.

I'm not going to rank it other than to say it is on my "really good Trek movie" list. Treks 2, 4, 6, 13.

It's funny that the "classics" featured in the movie are rap music. I guess the Beatles would be too difficult to license.

Need to watch it a few more times but gut feeling is top 3.
