Who here has Cut the Cord?

I haven't had cable television for at least a year. My provider changed a couple of times, I finally stopped canceling cable every six months or so, and decided to live with just the internet.

What I have, is Amazon Prime ($99.00 per year), Sling TV ($25.00 per month, including local sports), Spotify Premium ($14.99 per month for the Family Plan), NBA League Pass ($199.99 per year), and Two Amazon TV Fire Sticks (with HDMI ports). This allows me to watch Youtube on my TV, to get Showtime or HBO as a stand-alone service, if I wanted it, etc.

I only ask, not to promote anything, but I have been happier with the content, having a job with weird hours, than I was paying for cable TV. I hear Millenials (my generation) have grown up not wanting cable TV. It's not any cheaper, but I do get to rest my Blu-Ray player, and my DVD collection, and just stick with digital content. I was curious if anyone else made this choice?

I'm 31, and ever since I moved out of my parent's house, I've cut the cord, I don't miss cable TV one bit. I subscribe to Netflix, Hulu (no ads), Amazon Prime (Student price rate, use my work email since I work at a college), and HBO Now when Game of Thrones is airing. This works out to be a lot cheaper than the cable packages. I still buy Blu-Rays of my favorite movies, like to have the collection. Besides, almost all Blu-Rays come with a Digital Copy these days.

I only had cable so I could watch new episodes of Mad Men on first broadcast. As soon as the show ended, I canceled cable.

I ditched cable about two months ago and haven't missed it. I have a PVR for over-the-air, Netflix, Amazon Prime, MLB TV for baseball games, and still save about $100 a month. When TCM gets its standalone service I will be all set. I will have to wait longer for the few cable shows I like, but have more than enough to watch in the meantime.

I cut the cord a few years ago. I get Law & Order: SVU from iTunes, and MLB.TV for baseball. I see no need for over-the-air TV.

I want to leave cable behind but my brother is co-owner of the house (inheritance thingie) and he likes it and it is his only form of entertainment. Husband likes NCIS but that's about it...and we could watch that on CBS streaming when we eventually sign up for the new Star Trek show.

I've never had a cord to cut. I've never subscribed to cable after moving out of my parents' place and I never will.

Is this going to be a real thing in the near future? I would certainly pay for that.

Well, a streaming partnership between TCM and Criterion video is supposed to be going in a few months:

I'm not sure how much of the TCM "classic" library will be available, but it seems like a good starting point. If subscriptions go well, I'm hoping they will be able to include more of the TCM catalog.

We canceled cable back in January when money got tight after I was unemployed for a while. Between Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime, plus over-the-air broadcasts, we don't miss it at all. And I do a share on MLB.tv, so I only pay about $24 / year for that, which is a stupendous deal.

A few months ago. Got a Tivo Roamio OTA because the wife wants a DVR on the main tv. Four HD antennas and four Rokus, Sling TV, and Netflix give us all the tv we can watch and much more. After the initial investment in hardware we're saving about $100 a month.

Awhile back...another web site/forum....came across a comment that cable is a dying medium to the Millenial generation.

I'm Dutch, so things are different here. We got a package deal that has internet, tv and landline-phone. We got it when we started living here, almost 7 years ago. But really, in the last two years, we only actually watch TV channels for Doctor Who and The Great British Bake-Off. That's literally about 20 to 24 hours of tv a year. We only watch Netflix or dvd/blurays. That's it. TV sucks. There are literally no good tv shows on tv here, the rest is just brainless entertainment of the lowest quality. No thank you.

We've been looking into changing our subsription, but I can't be arsed with all the hassle, and we plan on buying a house in a few months, so we might change our subscriber all together.

I still can't bring myself to do it. I watch a lot of TV at night when I get off work, and torrenting isn't really an option. I also watch loads of football and soccer.

I watch a lot of live sports and like seeing certain shows at the earliest time possible, so I still benefit from having cable.

Also my streaming quality is really iffy sometimes.

If traditional television should survive, I think that sports will be the most important reason. Also, news/weather.

What else? Shows that are cheap to produce. Cooking shows, Game shows. And lots and lots of "reality" programming.

The only reality shows I can watch are the ones that don't pretend to be reality and just make a game that's fun to watch.

Although I do like some of the beer related shows on Esquire like Brew Dogs or Bar Rescue.
