Who here has Cut the Cord?

True. I remember when internet was really expensive, and then it was dirt cheap, and now it's really expensive again. I was shocked last time I moved and had to choose a new provider. Actually, that's partially why I cut cable, with internet being so high I couldn't afford to have cable as well.
I think Cable companies have long been aware of what the future will bring, but have chosen to fight it tooth and nail while simultaneously working on ways to maintain and strengthen their profits.

I cut the cord a few years ago. I get Law & Order: SVU from iTunes, and MLB.TV for baseball. I see no need for over-the-air TV.

PBS and NFL.

When I first moved out on my own, leaving Oklahoma to move to Daytona Beach, I got DirecTV so I could get Sunday Ticket and still watch Dallas Cowboys games. When I moved back to OK in 2005 I brought DirecTV back with me but canceled within a year since all Cowboys games are OTA here and I was paying over $100/month for something I'd maybe use like an hour a week, which I felt was too much to spend on something that didn't come with a happy ending.

So I've been cable free for 10 years. I do have Netflix. I also have AmazonPrime, but I actually got it for the free two-day shipping. It wasn't until they took Doctor Who off Netflix that I've really started to explore AmazonPrime. Of course, YouTube on my SmarTV. No Hulu. I chose to pay for SirusXM and have free Spotify. So AP = 100/year, NF = 120/year. That's like, what, $20/month?

Two years ago when Mad Men went off the air. I bought an antenna since but disconnected it after some weeks and put it back in the box. I have the net on my phone.

I catch up on stuff when I pet sit.

Looking to build my own media streaming server from a Raspberry Pi3 running Linux. Still in the research phase, but the more I look into dedicated devices like Roku the more attractive building my own seems. I like to customize my media tech. Once that is up and running, cutting the cord seems viable to me.
