a review from John Campea. He gave it a really good review. He doesn't really go into any spoilers.

In the simplest terms, the humor, action and pacing of this film will satisfy both summer movie aficionados and hardcore Trek purists alike. The film is epic and balanced, kinetic and thoughtful, and connects Trek across 50 years of continuity in ways that could never have been expected.

It’s an exceptionally worthy mic drop for Star Trek’s golden anniversary.

Wow. Sounds like a great film we've got on our hands!

Lots of reviews online now. I haven't come across a bad one yet. Biggest criticism I can see so far is that there's norhing particularly ground breaking or innovative in the movie and elba is a little underused but the general consensus so far seems to be that it's a lot of fun, with some memorable set pieces and McCoy has a lot more to do at the expense of uhura. I think so far so good.

I LOVE this clip so much. It kinda evokes The Motion Picture, I guess because it's the first time since TMP that the crew have encountered a weird unknown thing in space. And the Swarm looks really freaky when flying together. Those tentacles were eerie.

This one from Forbes says it fails to engage.

Yet, Scott Mendelson goes on to say:

The good news for Star Trek Beyond is that it’s an instalment in a franchise that audiences actually like, with characters/actors that audiences enjoy. While this third one may not be the pop culture event that the first two are, it (like Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation) has the advantage of being a follow-up to a film that audiences mostly enjoyed. The fact that that’s considered an advantage (as opposed to a sequel to a disliked film) shows you where we are in franchise-building).

I think it means he gave it a passing score.

So far, at this early stage, RT and MC scores are hovering around STiD levels which is encouraging.

When the number of reviews get pass 50 or so, that should give us a good indication.

Will check again in 4 hours.

I love this clip. Love. When I heard the STTMP-like music I was hooked. Looks like a touchstone Trek first contact moment.

RAMA

Empire gave it a 4/5-Star review.

The Barco Escape trailer is jaw-dropping but it shows a lot. Spoiler

Cinemablend:

Given that 2016 happens to be the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, it would have been a tremendous shame if Star Trek Beyond was a disappointment -- but it's really the opposite of that. It's a refreshing and exciting sci-fi feature with a classic feel, brought to life with a funny, engaging script and thrilling direction. It's a reminder of the true greatness in the franchise, and one of the summer's best blockbusters.

Plus Giacchino is definitely channeling a little J-Golds there.

Nice video. JJ appears less hyper and more mature than usual.
