HUGE Mr Sulu Spoiler

What episode is that where McCoy's daughter is mentioned?
I don't really care if TAS showed Sulu expressing interest in a magic woman. It's not even in the same universe as the Kelvin Sulu anyways.
Everything you ever wanted to know about Joanna McCoy.

I wonder, if she exists in the new universe, too. So far there was no indication, that she was born.

Well then case closed. If TAS is any indication on anything.

As you can see in the movie, Sulu wants to make out with the woman, but when she turns into a strong masculine man he backs off.

Thank you Nerys for helping me prove my point.

Well why does he want to make out with a woman while he's on the bridge and on duty? Sulu Prime would NEVER do that. He wouldn't abandon his post like NuUhura - it's clearly mind control. ;-P

As for the devil dude. The guy shaves his chest. I can understand how that might be a turn off.

It's possible that new McCoy even has a different ex wife than Prime McCoy.
I like McCoy being a father, so I hope it gets brought up at some point. There were rumors awhile back that McCoy's ex wife would be in the movie, but it seems to be a false rumor.

Can you back up the fact that TAS is canon? Has anyone said it is? As opposed to Gene Roddenberry publicly saying it is not?
Gene Roddenberry didn't publicly say it, Richard Arnold did. And if you want to believe that Roddenberry decanonized Animated, you also have to decanonize ST2-6 because Arnold pretty much mentioned in the same breath that Roddenberry didn't like them either and didn't consider them canon.

As far as headlines go, that's one of the most dishonest I've seen in recent memory.

Rod's only quoted comments in the article:

"I think he (Gene) would be 100 percent in favor of a gay character in 'Star Trek," said Roddenberry during an interview Tuesday. "There's so much going on in the world today. I think he would love any sort of social issue being brought into 'Star Trek.' "
...
In a way, it's George's character," Roddenberry said. "I can understand why he feels strongly about it. I don't see why everyone is bickering about it. It's about (expletive) time. Let's just do it."

Sounds pretty 'sure' to me. Unless 'I know why you feel that way, but I disagree' counts as uncertain these days, and somone forgot to inform me.

I didn't see this posted yet:

'Star Trek' creator's son unsure of gay Sulu

Yes, he sounds sooooo 'unsure'.

Ninjaed...

For 50 years, Star Trek has sought out new life, and new civilizations...

They found Klingons, Vulcans, Tribbles, android crew members and holographic doctors, fish-headed humanoids, Bynars, crystalline entities, energy beings, a Neelix, a Phlox, and a Tuvix... none of which exist here in the real world, but all of which were accepted and incorporated into the rich Star Trek universe.

Then, after 50 long years (and hundreds of years in the future), they finally discovered a rare Gay. (A Gay is a fairly common lifeform here in the real world, found just about everywhere in the present day.)

That's when all hell broke loose...

Well it's weird why most people here are reacting like people here are against gays (not weird at all though, since people without arguments have to pull the homophobe card), when it infact is the fact that it's that we don't think it should be Sulu, simply because it A: Changes someones character in a illogical way, B: is cheap. C: goes against the wishes of Takei and most likely Gene. I completely understand Takei too, instead that he will be remembered as that gay asian guy who had a well fleshed out character in Star Trek who had a good character development, he will be remembered as that gay guy who's character was also gay.

If Pegg and the other hacks really wanted to be "edgy" in 2016 when Gay characters are pretty much mainstream anyway and hardly breaks any new ground, and they are serious with the whole "it's a whole new universe crap" they should have simply turned Kirk gay. Way to beat a dead horse. It's great when you think about it. They pick the asian guy nobody cares about and even have the audacity to call it a "tribute to George Takei" even when Takei doesn't want it. A big Lol on that one.
