Has anyone seen this? Flying NCC1701 D

I just found this via youtube.

Brilliant model just a slight shame he had problems with controlling it in flight. I don't know how you could fix that but props for such a brilliant effort.

The prob is that it's not aerodynamic at all. All the Enterprises are designed for a flight in space where there is no air drag. In an atmosphere they will inevitably get almost uncontrollable.
I'd say that the best model for flights in our atmosphere might be a Kingon Negh'Var Class or a simple Bird Of Prey. Both have sleek bodies and wide wings that are drawn downward, which makes them resemble birds gliding on the air.

Compare the lower specimen in this pic of flying geese with a bird of prey:

You're quite correct. There are models of BOPs that fly and they seem to handle better then Enterprise shaped models. There's a few on youtube.

true :) That's why nature invented them for planetarian flight ;) [or is it "planetary" ????]

I think the makers of Trek gave that problem some thought as well. Hence the option of detaching the saucer section. In an atmosphere it'd behave similar to a frisbee disk while the rest of the ship would have a more streamlined shape and propably be able to fly better as well. It might be interesting to try that theory on a disassembled model.

Buiding it would be no prob, I daresay. But jet engines are not exactly environmentally friendly. We'd have to invent a clean means of propulsion that's not dangerous. A difficult task. Solar panels are too weak for the mass of a BOP and "normal" electricity is made in power plants fired by fossile fuels. Pretty dirty stuff and bad for the climate. Water power destroys nature (have you ever seen the Hoover Dam from a plane? Horrible! Huuuuuge river going in, a trickle like a rat's pee coming out). Wind power sounds good at first but creates stress for plants and animals due to the constant low-frequency thrumming that both air and soil transmit over a considerable distance.
Chemical energy and nuclear power offer lots of difficulties with the disposal of waste products.

Now, if there was a way to turn stupidity into propulsion, every vehicle containing a politician would practically be a perpetuum mobile

Yeah beyond some kind of jet engine in the nacelles I don't know what one could use. In theory you could build I think some kind of customised aircraft that would look like a BOP without much difficulty, For practicality you'd have to change one or two things but I suspect the basic shape could be kept. I think the design would work.

You could make it a flyable drone, though it would have to have air channels running through it top to bottom to house the rotors, so it wouldn't be an accurate Enterprise model.

really? Heehee, I love that!. A definite proof that life has a sense of humour.
A warship needn't be fast, she only needs to be able to smash everything she encounters into tiny bits. And since that one is built as a trimaran, she might actually be rather quick for her size.

This is the beast I was talking about. I'm not 100% sure but I think it was a bit of a flop.

The Sea Shadow was the design that was in the Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies

Here are some more BoP-like designs, with the latter actually being named the Bird-of-Prey because of its resemblance to the Klingon ship:
