A short clip of Rihanna interviewed on a Chinese language program pushing STB.

The TV spot is for the Chinese market with English/Mandarin subtitles.

It does confirm STB will get a summer release in China, DURING the traditional Hollywood movie black-out period.

Which means Paramount's partnering of local distributors and co-financiers has helped STB get a release during the peak summer months when Hollywood movies are banned from competing.

No.

Some of us like spoilers...and we still manage to enjoy ourselves.

But I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I realize I am whistling in the wind here, but...

How I learned my lesson the hard way. Australia got "ST III: The Search for Spock" six months after the USA premiere. Yes, I read the imported novelization about four months before seeing the movie, but the night before the huge gala ST III premiere, which I'd actually helped Paramount to organize (filling the cinema with costumed fans three nights running), a friend was given a secret bootleg of ST III on VHS by her local video shop, and I raced over to watch that evening. It was truly crap quality, so I didn't even have the fun of seeing any new visuals on the big night. Six months wait and I wrecked everything the night before because of my impatience.

I used to have to compile the "sealed section" for our club newsletter (1984-1991) and was exposed to almost every detail before seeing Trek movies. I used to think it was so clever to know everything. I loved spoilerizing myself. (I don't think I'll ever forgive "Cinefantastique" for spoilers hidden in their photo captions, and it was the beginning of the end for me!) But then whole scripts of "Generations" and "First Contact" were being leaked. Last time, with "Into Darkness", I saw way too many US fans prejudge every element, based on factoids being leaked from the Australian premiere (with no embargo!) - and their eventual responses to the film were as if they'd seen a different version entirely.

We were asked last Thursday to respect the embargo on "Beyond" until 21st July. I'd hate to see Paramount give up on free public previews because we fans couldn't be trusted. Oh well.

I fully appreciate where you're coming from.

I'm not after massive spoilers. To date, have only been discussing potential what ifs and things seen in trailers & TV spots.

Nothing that not already in the public domain.

In terms of going into a Star Trek movie 'cold', I've had mix experiences.

I really enjoyed ST6 and FC but was so let down by Nemesis.

These days, I like to at least some bare bones story or plot.

The issue is people not being able to keep a perspective on things and taking a small tidbit of information and either blowing it out of context or letting their imaginations run wild.

The 'disappointment' then comes when what you've imagine wasn't actually the case in the movie.

There are general story points and minor spoilers like we get to see an earlier Federation ship and a starbase.

I'm ok with finding those things out.

There are then major spoilers like key plot details; McGuffins etc which I don't want to know.

Please everyone. Stop spoilerizing yourselves! This was my first Trek movie - in thirteen - in which I had hardly any idea what would happen. It was a wonderful experience! ;)

I guess I'm mainly reacting to the "Q&A" thread, which I assumed had been started to inform fans about the content of the free Q&A for the Sydney fans with Lin and the cast. When I peeked inside the thread, it seemed to be a free-for-all, and not in the spirit of Paramount Australia's requested embargo.

Well, I've not clicked any of the spoilers in that thread. Just following the general buzz.

Not bothering with, jar jar trek no more. this is at the top of boycotting. star trek RIP

More room for me at the cinema

You do realise people who've seen it have said things like this is the best ST movie in 20 years or this is the best of the 3 new ones or this has so many nods to all the 10 original and TNG movie and 5 TV series?

Making a short 'don't like this' statement doesn't add anything to the discussion.

You don't like it because . . . ?

I am a major fan of TOS, and will always be. And of the original 6 movies. I watched TNG, DS9, Voyager and Enterprise. They never grabbed me as much as TOS (Enterprise least of all) And the reboots don't have the same effect. I do have to say that ID, I liked how Kirk and Spock were forming a closer relationship.

SO while I didn't exactly get as excited about AOS, that doesn't mean I won't give Beyond a chance. SO no one better take my seat, it could get ugly (worse than anything Krall could unleash.:devil::evil:

I'll be there with my family and friends. Hopefully we'll take up an entire row in the centre of the cinema!

This is what I'm seeing most of at the moment. Positive impressions of trailers and latest TV spots.

Very positive impressions of the characters' team work and friendship, which we know will be tested.

All this before we even get an official review of the actual movie!

As another article said, Star Trek is getting all this buzz at the moment not because Sulu is gay but because it's Star Trek.
