Just beautiful. Can't get over how good she looks. Long overdue.

Stunning attention to detail. After 50 years, it remains one of the most visually appealing studio models ever constructed.

Yeah, too bad the refit will never be restored to its original condition.Stunning attention to detail. After 50 years, it remains one of the most visually appealing studio models ever constructed.
Why not? What happened to it? In any case, it's only a shadow of the original from a historical perspective.Yeah, too bad the refit will never be restored to its original condition.
It's in a private colllection. Why not? What happened to it? In any case, it's only a shadow of the original from a historical perspective.

I live about 40 minutes away, but have always taken the car. There is a fair amount of street parking around the National Mall, but its always been my experience that if you don't there around 9am, or so (Smithsonian opens at 10am, IIRC) parking is quite problematic. Next time, I just may try the metro.I live near D.C. (well, relatively near compared to most of you. It's about an hour away give or take depending on traffic or if I take the metro from one of the outlying stations)
Some wallpapers.

From what I've found online, Top: Vernon Sion, Mel Keys, Volmer Jensen. Bottom: Richard Datin, Sion, Keys.I've only seen these photos in recent years, and I'm sure this question has probably been answered elsewhere (or is considered common knowledge) but -- do we know who these guys are?

I don't know if it was the original site, but for years it was hung above the entrance to an exhibit room (can't remember which room) on the first floor. By standing on a staircase or escalator outside that room, you could get an eye-level view, but from a distance....have seen the Enterprise but for the life of me I can't remember where it was. I don't believe it was in the gift shop though...
Hopefully this ends up on YouTube or on DVD.
