A very impressive premiere. They've really opened up the storytelling and added a lot of interesting new character arcs and worldbuilding, as well as new characters. Nyx (Melanie Liburd) is gorgeous and strong, and I can't wait to see more of her.
Another novelty: The episodes have titles this season, not just numbers. This one's "Welcome to Your New Home."
I was intrigued by Zoie Palmer's performance in the Android's one scene. Instead of her usual perky-quirky attitude, she projected an impressive poise and dignity that I found compelling.
And man, what a final twist. I never expected anything that drastic.
Unless that was a Transfer Transit clone in the final scene, I very much doubt it....

LOL...Well, none were in sight for the premiere. They pulled out all the stops, I'm happy to see what they could accomplish with more resources. But I do have continuing nitpick with futuristic prison design- must we have force fields instead of good old fashion bars that won't deactivate during oh so convenient power outages?Dark Matter is back! How many strange new malls and warehouses can they visit this season?
And the age old question of why no toilet in solitary? Unless that small ring/tube on the wall near the holo-platform pulls out....Six/Griffin/Kal is not having an easy time reassimilating in his true identity, this will obviously not end well...
The end of the episode would have packed more of a punch, had Syfy not included a brief clip of it in their promos!!!! Up to their same old tricks after all these years.. . Great kick off for season 2. Good to have a fun Friday genre show back on the air.

Good thing I missed those promos, then. I did not see that coming.
Still, I've felt all along that Marc Bendavid was the weak link in the cast, acting-wise. This may be a way of writing him out of the show, eventually. Presumably the real Corso will take his place and pretend to be One (assuming a successful escape and reunion on the Raza), but that arc can't last forever, and once they find out, he's probably done for. And they do have a couple of new regulars to make room for.
I believe the TNG and later brigs had sinks and toilets that pulled out of the wall. I still wonder about the shuttlecraft, though...
Completely off topic, but I always assumed that models equipped with a transporter wouldn't need a bathroom of any kind. It's not the most sanitary thought necessarily, but if you have the tech, use it, am I right?
Granted, on DS9 they did often refer to "waste extraction" as the futuristic term for the lavatory. I have occasionally wondered if transporters were involved in that.
Though on the other hand, if transporter use were that targeted as a matter of course, you'd expect to see more transporter-based surgery, which isn't something the shows have done much with.

Oh, I didn't realize that. I thought maybe they had just revealed it during one of her flashbacks and I forgot about that. I took the names off Wikipedia and the official cast page on Syfy. Five's real name was actually revealed on a short clip on Joseph Mallozi's blog.
Since they were two of my favorite cast members on the show I'm thrilled to see them back on Syfy.So Killjoys gets Irisa and Dark Matter gets Doc Yewell. Now which show is more likely to get Grant Bowler... as Nolan?
I really enjoyed the premiere. We got some interesting hints that there is a bigger conspiracy going on with all of this.
The stuff in the prison was good, and we got interesting new bits of info about Moss's wife's murder.
I was a little dissapointed they split everybody up, but we already started getting some hints at how everybody will end up back together.
That was a hell of a twist at the end. It will be interesting to see what they do with Moss/One now, it seems a little unlikely that he'll be able to survive being shot in the chest so many times.
We didn't see a lot of Dev, but Nix was cool.

It sure looked to me like Corso's final shot was to One's head. After the shots to the chest, he took his time aiming at One's fallen body before firing; no reason he'd do that for just another chest shot. And then we cut to a shot of One where there was definitely a mark on his forehead -- the angle made it a bit unclear, but there's really nothing it could be except a bullet hole.
Who was Dev? I looked it up, and the articles mention a former surgeon named Devon, but I don't remember who that was in the episode.
Seems likely. Six is disillusioned with the GA now, since they're as corrupt as the corporations. Five is in danger of being sent to prison, the Android is in danger of being wiped, Two is in danger of having her synthetic nature discovered. So they'll probably reunite out of shared necessity.
Except those dissolve to dust almost immediately after being "killed." The camera lingered on One/Moss long enough to make it unlikely that he's a Transfer Transit clone.
Devon is the prisoner working in the infirmary who tended to Three.
So is the real Corso going to impersonate Moss in season 2, just as Moss impersonated Corso in season 1? That might make a kind of sense, replacing a rather bland character with an edgy one without changing actors.
Mallozi wrote on his blog that the network insisted on titles, and he put up 4 possible titles for each episode on his blog, for readers to vote on.
I wonder if Nyx (who is going to be a regular, this season, probably along with Devon from the infirmary) is a plant (from part of the GA or from one of the corporations) or a constructed human (like two), or both. I had the impression the run-in with two was deliberately arranged by someone, and how convenient if Nyx really would know a way out (which she hasn't used yet).
I like that all the loose ends from last season get addressed, down to Six not informing his superiors about Two's abilities and the Android not releasing the information she has stored (which would make any omissions or lies by One through Six useless). And that the duplicity/corruption of the GA is not ignored; the intervention by Shaddick (played by Franka Potente, hopefully a recurring character this year, though I'm not sure about that) shows that not everyone in the GA sees eye-to-eye with regards to the Raza crew.
Six' bosses seem to bow to pressure from corporations who don't want a trial for the Raza crew because their involvement in major crimes would come out; Shaddick seems to want the truth to come out though, much like Six. And yet, they will probably be opponents as Six already seems to regret turning the crew in, especially now that Five isn't safe anymore. Ironically, Shaddick may well have saved Five's life for now as it seems she would have been killed shortly after being transferred planetside.
I doubt One is dead; it may have been a Transfer Transit clone that got shot, if he really got as suspicious as he claimed to be. It would be a natural precaution to take as he didn't trust the acting CEO anyway (and he would be moving into his territory and thus be at his mercy), and it would also be typical of the kind of cliffhangers that Mallozi likes to pull off.
We don't know if transfer transit tech was available at that site, but given the amount of luxury it seems a fair guess there is a local branch on that planet.
I dunno, I think the blandness is more a function of the actor. I'm still thinking that Real Corso couldn't last as a regular for long -- certainly not for multiple seasons, unless he makes a "face turn" somewhere along the way (or gets his memories wiped?). And they are adding two new regulars, which creates the option of getting rid of an existing regular. Bendavid might be entirely gone from the show by the end of the season, if not sooner.

Yes, she turns out be loyal to the crew, despite their criminal records. I guess the acceptance at the end of S1(the last, joyous dinner) made an impression!
The reaction from the GA tech was golden. His remarks about "old tech; first faults and then the whole system crashes" will not help to restore self-confidence though.
Edit: I hope Shaddick becomes a regular because a lot of the secrets of the Raza and its crew could be very inconvenient for corporations and certain individuals in the GA, and she seems like the person who would make sure there are consequences. Could become an ally in the long-term, allthough I suppose that, in the short term, she will be grilling any crewmember she can get her hands on, starting with 5.
The real Corso wouldn't fool the Raza crew at all, but maybe he could would allow his face to be changed to look like One's original face. It would probably be enough to fool the people in One's old life. For a while anyway.
