Spoilers STAR TREK BEYOND

I just realised something that I hope won't be a plothole and is explained in the movie. Serious question here, where did spock get the necklace from? I already had it in my head that it was from Sarek but it makes little sense because Vulcan was blown up which means all of Amanda's current properties would have been gone.

the only way spock had possession of the necklaces was if

1. Sarek carried it around which seems very far fetched not to mention the necklace is for women.

2. the Necklace was given to him by his mother's family after her death

3. Amanda , before she died gave it to spock in advance to give it to the woman he would eventually fall in love with or Amanda was already aware of uhura and gave it spock to give to her at the right time.

I hope it is explained in the film to some detail

Who cares?

I do care because I don't like to watch a film with mind blowing plotholes. it would be nice to know the writers crossed all their T's and doted all their I's .

So Spock had his mummy's women's necklace , a good explanation will be cool since he had not seen his mother in a long time and she perished on a blown up planet with all her belongings.

Sarek was the Vulcan ambassador to Earth, so he undoubtedly had a residence there. He and Amanda probably both had kept clothes and such items like jewelry in that residence for their time on Earth rather than pack all the time. The necklace was from where they lived on Earth. Not too hard to figure out.

The summer has been a bust for live action blockbusters. Only 2 were really successful. Ghostbusters is not getting good word of mouth and the Bourne movies are not in their prime. The Suicide Squad isn't well known outside of comics. That leaves ST:Beyond as the best looking. most bankable blockbuster.
Americans are going to the movies less often. It's a trend that's been increasingly going on for years now. That's probably contributing a lot to these box office results, but still 48M-60M would be disappointing.

The international audience for movies keeps growing. Alot of people in these markets have only recently become middle class, so going to the movies is a new thing for them. Meanwhile the average American has seen 1000+ movies in his/her lifetime, and has a ton of entertainment options so it's hard to get excited about movies. Especially when so many of them are sequels and reboots.

That really isn't true. The total number domestic tickets sold (annually) has remained mostly constant for the last 30 years. While it is true that it's on a slight decline, that's only because it reached an all-time high in the early-mid 2000s.

When one thinks about it, the one serious thing the necklace does signify is how much Spock must've come to care for (love?) Uhura to give it to her. That necklace had to be precious and very meaningful to Spock.

Remember the early opening weekend projections do not include the interest generated by Rihanna's Sledgehammer, ComicCOn premier and the final 3 weeks of marketing + TV spots.

If what we've seen so far is an indicator, the next 3 weeks will probably be close to non-stop ads, TV spots, billboards etc.

I'm willing to bet the opening weekend will end up well north of $60m.

Meanwhile, this weekend, Tarzan is heading for mid-$30m and BFG mid $20m which continues the slow box office.

But the fact remains good films (Dory, etc) do find their audience and the audience keep coming back weekend after weekend.

What the box office shows is audiences aren't going to just any movie, but the 'right' movie.

The TV spots are great. Many many people will never sit through a 2 minute trailer but a 16 second TV spot where Kirk says he's headed for the bar instead of med bay, that's the sort of quick fire advertising that works.

Spock refuses the necklace, so Uhura puts it back on. Later in the movie, a blast from an alien gun is deflected when it hits the gemstone in the necklace, saving Uhura's life. If Spock had accepted it, well -- . It writes itself!

I loved the spock/uhura/bones clip! I'm getting so excited for this movie. That scene ties in nicely with what I read Here, in an interview of Zoe, quoting her, "But I think Spock is absolutely in love with Uhura. I think he’s crazy about her. And if Uhura is done with him, it’s going to kill him. [laughs] I’m joking. But he really loves me more than I do him."

Movie tickets sales in America have steadily been declining over the past 14 years.

This is despite the fact that the American population has increased by over 30M in that same time period.

2016 is on pace for about 1.2B in ticket sales. That's 3.75 tickets per person.
In 2003 1.5B tickets were sold. That's 5.2 tickets sold per person.
