I remember it well. It was the moment in my childhood I stopped taking "Power Rangers" seriouslyAh, but which came first -- the chicken or the egg? Answer me that. Perhaps a giant space chicken is creating a shell around KIC 8462852.
Wait, aren't you my age? So when PR premiered in August 1993 you were ~19 or 20! Unless you were going thru a second childhood in college (like many have)...I remember it well. It was the moment in my childhood I stopped taking "Power Rangers" seriously
How old did you THINK I was? Old enough to remember the premier of "Encounter at Farpoint" doesn't automatically mean "old enough that I used to think dialup internet was a miracle of technology."^

I just thought I remembered you saying you graduated HS in 1992 (like me). Or maybe that was someone else.....How old did you THINK I was? Is it possible that a similar sized icy world somehow broke apart, maybe do to a collision or internal build up of pressure where the large pieces of the planet became like comers and create a coma large enough to cause the dimming to take place at KIC 8462?
Of course it's POSSIBLE. But since that event would be indistinguishable from "a large group of comets" and since "large group of comets" is a far more common occurrence in a solar system that hasn't recently been visited by the Death Star, "large group of comets" is the more likely explanation. Is it possible that a similar sized icy world somehow broke apart, maybe do to a collision or internal build up of pressure where the large pieces of the planet became like comers and create a coma large enough to cause the dimming to take place at KIC 8462?
I hope you meant "comets".
The typo was "comers" -- I was making a salacious remark. Comets remain the best theory until more data is gathered.
Citation needed.Comets have already been completely discounted 100%.
By YOU, apparently, although they are still the leading explanation for literally everyone else. You're basically playing a long game of "What could it be OTHER than comets?" that has now been reduced to an ever-expanding list of "things that are exactly like comets in every possible way without actually being comets"Comets have already been completely discounted 100%.
Actually the Kepler team calculated it would take no less than 8, probably around 12 or 14.To cause the dims of KIC 8462 on the magnitude of 15% and 22% would take hundreds of thousands of comets to accomplish.
It is extremely unlikely that Tabby's Star will be the first or second or even 50th object viewed by Webb if and when it ever flies.A better analysis will be determined when the James Webb telescope goes on line which KIC 8462 would most likely be the first object that is viewed.
