I don't like the song. It starts great, atmospheric and suitable to the visuals, but when you think the song ought to transition into a big chorus, it doesn't, it just gets really repetitive. But apparently this singer is quite popular?

I imagine this trailer would be quite impressive in the cinema.
Look at the trailers now, you get a sense of the overall campaign (overlooking the TV spots etc for the sake of the argument):
Trailer 1 used Sabotage and was specifically meant to bring back fans of the previous two movies by reproducing that JJ energy.
Trailer 2 was the traditional-style trailer, to appeal to old-time Trek fans and science fiction fans in general.
Trailer 3 uses Rihanna and is meant to open out the campaign to the general movie-going audience, i.e. people who don't have a specific interest in Trek and sci-fi. To put it crudely, it's stuff sploding for the guys, and Rihanna and feels for the girls. I did find it a bit odd that Uhura wasn't more featured in this last trailer, but perhaps they thought her on the screen combined with Rihanna on the soundtrack might make it seem too much of a chick flick.
