Spoilers Supergirl - Season 2

I was hoping for much more from the direwolves as well. I meant, however, in terms of how he looks in the comics.

The new 52 version of Krypto has been pretty well done. He's more like one of the Stark's direwolves than a lovable pooch in a cape.

*nods*

Such an approach would also parallel the Earth-16/Young Justice homage character Wolf (personally I'm hoping follow the "doesn't talk" thing of Young Justice, even if it's clear that he can fully understand speech - tho some basic "hulk speak" type of thing between Krypto and J'onn would be okay IMO).

I haven't seen Young Justice yet, but new Krypto (which I think is Morrison's creation) just behaves like a well trained, intelligent dog rather than a super-intellect.

Do we really think some big, scary wolfhound version of Krypto would be a good fit for Supergirl? Sounds more like the version Zack Snyder would prefer.

More of a husky perhaps? But the story writes itself and fits in with some contemporary themes about people raising wild animals. Supergirl takes Krypto home but when his powers start to kick in she has a hard time controlling him. Superman shows up to help as it is actually his dog any way and takes Krypto back to the Fortress of Solitude for training.

I would say the best fit would be more in the middle. Having a 'superdog' that looks like your everyday household pet would feel like a lame kids movie, even in a relatively light-hearted show like supergirl. You can make the dog big and impressive without making him dark and wolfish. Hell, the Dire Wolves themselves really don't look that scary, except when they're angry. The show could do worse than taking them as an example.

Maybe something like Harry Dresden's dog in the books, which is this huge mystical Chinese-temple-guardian dog that's very dangerous, but has the personality of a friendly puppy.

If Lynda Carter is still playing the President as planned it will be interesting what name they give her character. An illusion to her WW history would be nice. But I had another thought. She has already appeared on a Superman related show. Smallville. What if they named her President Moria Sullivan?

I was never happy with her character and what a sad life she had. This doppleganger obviously had a much better life. The problem though is it would probably get up fan hopes of seeing her daughter Chloe. Or that Lucy Lane's aunt is the President. Unless they just used the name and ignored the family relations.

I don't think it would be that bad if they just had him acting like a normal dog most of the time, until someone messed with Kara at which point he'd start using his powers.

Streaky also is her cat in the comics, so they wouldn't be taking another character who is part of Superman's cast and transplanting them into Supergirl's.

Yeah, but unless they CGI it - which would difficult and expensive at best to get right - Streaky would be a lot more difficult to do much more than just "ordinary pet cat stuff" as cats are difficult to impossible to train, whereas dogs are comparitively much easier.

It would not hurt the series to have a dark, wolfish kind of dog; the series--whether some like it or not--is slowly going to move toward the tone of the more successful DC movies. With Cadmus exploding in season 2 (and other plots too spoiler-ish to post here), SG is not going to be an exact mirror of season 1 with Kara turning her head to the side and giggling.. Supergirl dealing with a hostile, powerful animal that she has to work to understand and/or eventually tame could be a nice contrast to the external threats that will not compromise their position / actions, or not be able to be "tamed" in the grand scheme of things.

I didn't realize cats were that hard to deal with, I've never really been around them much.

The saying goes that if your movie/episode requires a cat to do nine specific things, you need to get nine identical trained cats.

The difference, of course, is that dogs are pack animals that naturally respond to authority, while cats are mostly solitary hunters and thus tend to be more independent-minded. Cats can do amazing feats, but generally only when they feel like it.
