Anton Yelchin dead in rollaway car accident

I hope that he got a larger role in stb then did in stid. It would be nice that the he can go out on a memorable performance of importance to the film.

Personally I think any fourth movie should just retire the character and the role it served. No Saavik or any other major character. Put a Lt Hadley in the chair as a nod to the lovely Billy Blackburn and leave it at that.

As tragic as his dead is, I wouldn´t mind if they would recast the role. Studios did such things before, i.e. Richard Harris and Michael Gambon as Professor Dumbledore in the Harry Potter movies.

With all due respect to that Man he was in his 70s or later probably of natural causes vs. A horrific accident potential defect w his Jeep

I like the nod of he was promoted to another ship etc. But

Completely shocking. He was way too young and a talented actor. Even though there's a month in which to process this tragedy before the new movie comes out, I can't only imagine that it's still going to be very bittersweet seeing him up on the big screen after this. Also, I just remembered that I was planning on going to see Into Darkness tonight (a local theater chain has been playing select Trek movies every week this month) and I'm wondering if I can even handle that now. The scene where Kirk tells Chekov to go put on a red shirt now unfortunately has uncomfortable connotations. But I suppose maybe I will still go as a way of paying my respects.

I hope they dedicate STB to him.

Sadly, they can't-the movie's most likely already in the system ready to be beamed out (or shipped out as physical hard drive media.) They'd probably have to make a special version with the dedication in it.

Of course, Paramount could do it now, and have it to be ready for the movie's mid-July opening, so I could be wrong about that (isn't our current movie tech wonderful in that regard?)

And that's the only good thing about all of this-that they'll probably be able to alter the new movie to put in a dedication of some sort. The rest of it is just one more sign 2016's a shitty year, with all of the deaths going on, and now, this one-of a young man, already a great actor, just starting out, in the prime of his life, playing the latest incarnation of a cultural icon to millions around the world. All gone in an instant yesterday afternoon.

Anton, rest in peace. You made the world a better place when you were alive.

Death, be not proud....

Rest well, Mr. Yelchin.

I always looked forward to meeting him one day. I wanted to get something signed by both he and Mr. Koenig. To this day when my wife asks me to do something, I bust out my best Chek and say "I can do zat!".

For Star Trek 4 and/or the Star Trek Ongoing comics, I'd love a mention of his transfer to Reliant and a maybe a "dedicated to Anton Yelchin" intro for Beyond. *Please* no recasting. Chek was bounced around to different assignments in the Prime universe, so there's already a precedent. Let's use it.

Also....it would be incredible if they brought in Chek's Prime universe replacement, Arex. It'd be so cool to see him in the Abramsverse, and the tech is there to do it.

LLAP Anton, wherever you are.....

Terrible news. Only positive is that this level of publicity will make more people aware of the dangers of the fault and could prevent further injuries or fatalities.

It's too soon to contemplate what the future holds for the character I suppose. They have not been especially respectful to Chapel or Rand, although there it was the original actresses that passed away. I suppose Chekov could join Chapel on the frontier or he could pass on in the franchise too. Maybe his younger brother (4 years younger if you get my drift) could attend the funeral. Recasting seems a step too far (although we don't know how many of the cast might return for a fourth movie in any event). I would be happy if Chekov stayed off-screen having his own adventures. Other characters like Ilia could fill the chair and or characters like Chapel, Rand, Keenser, or Marcus could fill the missing character slot even if the Big 7 will always feel diminished by his absence.

Just did an article on the potential Jeep flaw. If this turns out to be true, it adds another level of suck to the whole deal.

http://www.trektoday.com/content/2016/06/yelchin-accident-due-to-faulty-vehicle/

There's supposedly a firmware update that will lock the vehicle in park when the door is open. There are fortysome other incidents where the car rolled when the driver thought they had it in park. Other cars with similar shifters already have the feature.

I have a 2015 Grand Cherokee. I doubt a firmware update will address the actual problem, which, despite what FCA says, isn't driver confusion. I can actually feel resistance at times when shifting from D>N>R>P, especially from R>P. It will stick in R and the engine can be turned off while in R. If you're not keenly aware of the problem, you could exit the vehicle while it's in reverse.

If what happened here is this problem, FCA should get ready for a well deserved billion dollar lawsuit. They've been ignoring and handwaving the issue away, and now there's been a death as a result.

Thanks for the clarification of the issue.
