Anton Yelchin dead in rollaway car accident

Something I just realized, yesterday was Zoe Saldana's birthday. While the loss of a co-worker and friend is pretty terrible in general, having it happen to someone on their birthday must certainly make it much worse. For some reason, that really gets to me.

I really hope they don't attempt to replace his character. I wonder if it's too late to add a scene in the next movie where he is killed off. I hate this so much. Rest well.

Well Chekhov in the prime universe did transfer to another ship in WOK so what's to say you cannot do that in this universe but on a more permanent basis.

But yeah on the whole 27 is far too young for anybody to pass on.

Especially since what happened was a "freak accident". Sigh...

:( :( I don't even know what to say. I hoped it was a hoax I couldn't believe it. The poor boy.. he was barely younger than me by few years and he's now gone forever for a stupid freak accident.
It's going to be very hard for the others to start promoting the movie soon and think that the youngest of their group won't even be able to watch the final product, and won't be there if they maybe get more movies. Everything will be bittersweet.

They now could bring in Saavik if they so chose. Regardless, won't be the same without Anton.

I don't think it would be possible for a Saavik to appear (considering the year BEY takes place), but I really hope that they don't recast the "Chekov" role for this iteration of Classic 'Trek. Just create a new character, or level up an existing character. But if they did introduce a new character, my preference would be someone in the vein of Chekov: young, fresh-face, full of wonder, and a genius at what s/he does (maybe a bit more "geeky" in this regard). In fact, make the new character a young Latina (Selena Gomez-type?). Now that I think about it, Anton Yelchin's portrayal of Chekov was the audience's avatar in a way, one that made sci-fi fun (the complete opposite of the post-apocalyptic/dystopian trope we tend to get these days).

At any rate, RIP, Mr. Yelchin. Your star shine brightly, but you left us too soon...

I'm just waiting for a "purist" to make a crack about it. I've already seen a few on facebook doing it. Disugusting

He had a Jeep Cherokee.

All Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles are offered with an ZF 8-speed Auto. The thing about this shifter is that it stays in the "N" position. Basically you push the button and push it forward for Park or Reverse... and push the button and shift it down to Drive. However, it always returns to the center position. It's all computer driven, not cable. There's been recalls because people are getting out of them before putting them in park, or not allowing enough time for it to engage which leaves it in gear.

Don't wait for such a thing--ignore it if you see it. Their words are unimportant and not even worth contempt.

I noticed in a few of the articles I read that there were comments from almost all but Pine.
He doesn't believe in social media.

And worse, it was Father's Day.

I thought about that jeep rolling back and wondered if there would be an investigation into that and any design flaws.

I think they can do whatever they choose to. Chekov was considerably older than he should have been. Bringing in a young Saavik at this juncture would not be an issue for me personally. But we will see what they will do!

I saw one comment on Dark Horizons where the individual was suggesting that they'd use it as a ploy to sell tickets. When someone suggested they needed to show a little respect for the dead, he suggested they (the new cast) should all die. Pathetic excuse for a human being, that one.

I wore a red tee-shirt today. Seemed more fitting than black. RIP, Anton. He was only a year and a month younger than me - his parent's only kid. :( I hope they don't kill his character off in a comic - it'd be nice to think his character lives on even if he doesn't.

true they could put it down to changes in the timeline if they wanted savvik

I was thinking this but I had no real reliable info (without double checking years and facts) I had seen this on a continuity video from youtube that compared his age from the show with the new films.

Being a purist has nothing to do with it. I don't like the movies , but the performance of the Actors have nothing to do with that and that has nothing to do with an actor's tragic death. Yeltin was good in the role and its a shame what happenedd

This is so sad and tragic. I feel so bad for his family and friends. I've really enjoyed his work in the Star Trek movies and have been following his career ever since. He was absolutely great in House of D and 5 to 7, but my favorite film of his is Rudderless. It's more of a supporting role, but he really shines like in all his movies.

Anton wasn't killed in an automobile crash. The car rolled and pinned him against a pillar crushing him.

It is going to be interesting how the new Anton is written into the series and movies.
^^^^
I hope they don't re cast per se. It's a different universe/timeline. In this type of situation, if there are any more films/stories in this timeline, it would be better to just let the character go (IMO).

Wow, I couldn't believe it when I saw this. What horrible news. :(
Condolences to his friends and family.
