That's the impression I keep having as I read him talking & listen to him talking & watch him in videos.I think what he wants is a recognized place in the pantheon. How he gets there or what the place is doesn't seem to matter anymore.
Now that would be quite interesting wouldn't it. I don't much see how it could happen though I definitely see how they could influence it, and might wish to influence it. Though I'm not familiar with the consensus. The consensus seems to be W&S wanted to be in the middle of any rewrite.
This is a big yes to me. Yes they took it 'because' it would churn up so many issues. Yes being outrageous because of the press. Yes push it up to StH visibility. Yes yes yes = W&S decision to take the case.Maybe they took this case BECAUSE it would be such a mess and thus churn up so many issues. Maybe they are trying to provoke the big players to take action that can be debated. Being outrageous just to push the case forward in the press. Push it up to Stairway to Heaven visibility.
That's an interesting thought too. And as an over all I won't expect W&S to care about the IP or IP law except that in doing a good job for this client adds to their resume for future client attraction (both defending & attacking IP). And I think they will be dogged in this. They are standing in a good place; 'they' have nothing to lose so they can take it to the mat with nit picking or anything they choose. Dig pick irritate push drag, work the press, work public opinion, influence anything they can with anything they can throw. Take their missteps, come back at it from a different angle. From the beginning I've thought this case would settle, most cases like this do, but I have 'never' believed W&S wanted to settle early to get it done with. Nu huh. They have a Plan. This might shed an interesting light on CBS/P, if they don't want outsiders getting their teeth into the law as it stands.
Again, I really don't think so. Any amount of common sense shows where Alec and crew crossed the lines, and did so (and continues to do so) more than once. There's not a lot of wiggle room when you actually say "I'm taking your IP, directly competing against you, and with the intention of making money from it." There's nothing 'fan' about that and everyone here, Axanar supporter or not, knows it.
That's' why this thread feels like a bunch of people watching a bad trainwreck.. because that's really what it is at this point. We're seeing just how far the conductor wants to go off the rails, not if the train's ever going to reach its destination.
Crowdfunder Insider article, December 30, 2015 is the direct quote I looked at this time but muCephi is correct that the original quote is from the production's fundraiser posted information.Where is that quote from?
Exactly. This "preview" was not for the public. It was for the AxaSheep.I think the whole narrative is just a subliminal swap out for "donors and fans we are being assaulted, we will stand united, we will not fail, and here's some elegaic chords and a space sunrise and fantastic looking light-shell-sketches of pretend kiddie warships to help you believe it, so don't talk to each other about a class action"
The narration struck me as being "writerly." It wasn't a character speaking naturally. It was how a writer imagined literary or elevated speech should sound, except actual literary or elevated speech doesn't sound like that at all. You see it a lot with novice writers.
Funny, though, I vaguely recall people getting all pumped up about the trailer when it first came out. People bashing Axanar on its creative merits are in large part just doing it to vent their frustration with Alec, and I bet some of the same people had been excited about it before (hence some here having donated). The only thing I remember people really complaining about when Prelude came out was the "Queen Bitch" line.
What is Star Trek? Parking lots --- speechifying---IN SPACE!
"In a world where the Federation is collapsing under the pressure of manufactured drama... one man will rise from the ashes of stilted dialogue to embark on a repetitive journey of heroism and emerge victorious over every single contrived obstacle..."It's a snooze-inducing, self-important narration that's trying to be more than what it really is — generic trailer voice over disguised as dialogue from the film.
So this new "trailer" is nothing but some visuals of a space parking lot with JG Hertzler talking. Yep, this is the "real" Star Trek that "the fans" want, all right! It's just like Gene Roddenberry said in his original Star Trek pitch in 1964:

It was the dawn of the third age of Star Trek, ten years after the cancellation of Enterprise.Space parking lot. Where have a I seen that before.

AXANAR is really a BABYLON 5 fan film disguised as an independent STAR TREK production.
Intellectual property law is a lot older than that. See: http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=1447933I would not be surprised if all of the big studios in Hollywood are watching this, or are part of this.
IP law is so new, ink is still drying on the paperwork, hell IP law might get a rewrite BECAUSE of this mess.
If AP wants to go down as the one who challenged IP law & lost the shirt on his back, well, that's his own damn fault.

The Axanar project was a dream given form for those people too lazy to come up with their own. It's goal: to prevent another JJ pew-pew fest by creating a pew-pew fest. It's a port of call, a home away from home for hustlers, hustlers, hustlers and hustlers.
Extras directors and faux-Fulfillment Directors wrapped up in the worlds biggest green screen, all alone in the Californian sunshine.
It can be a dangerous place, particularly for those who dare to speak out against proceedings, but it's Alec Peters' last best hope for some sort of meaningful career. I mean, there was the volleyball thing but that was decades ago.
This is the story of the last of the fanfilms, the year is 2016, the name of the place is Aries, sorry, Valkyrie, I mean, INDUSTRY studios (this week anyway).
