i hope they make the nacelles the same space apart as they were on the prime Enterproises
That's the regular JJprise how it appears at the start of Beyond. You can see the swept back nacelles all over the second Trailer. I made my own 3D print of it - it looks way nicer this way imho.
Yep, definitely better, I think. I liked the large nacelles though, so I'm disappointed that they shrunk them, and make them closer together. But, looking at the pick, that might be an underneath perspective view, making them look smaller.
Dac, that is awesome! I'd never be able to do mine that small. Did you say you were using dissolvable support material? I need to finish mine some time.

I honestly feel like we'll get something much closer to TOS Enterprise with the satellite dish but with some streamlining and aztecing.
Yeah but that's an in-universe perspective. I'm hoping they just go "who gives a shit" and throw in some more TOS stuff.Any new ship built will be even newer than the current 1701, and look even less like the TOS one. We'll likely see exactly the same design as the start of the movie, or a totally new and more advanced ship.
Even though that "painted wooden toy" is still one of the top starship designs in all science fiction, even fifty years after it was introduced. They won't. That was the whole point of rebooting, not having it look like a painted wooden toy from the 1960's anymore.
I think the word you're looking for is "bussard".![]()
But, looking at the pick, that might be an underneath perspective view, making them look smaller.
Ha! With those little nacelles and wider saucer, it looks more like the D. Isn't loving the D mandatory?
i hope they make the nacelles the same space apart as they were on the prime Enterproises
No sweat - I know some auto spell checkers don't know what to do with that word and doesn't correct it - probably because it's named after an actual person - Robert Bussard - who came up with the idea of the hydrogen ramjet for spacefaring ships running fusion-based energy systems. Thanks lol
I just switched to Sanka coffee so have a heart. ..... (from Fast Times at Ridgemont High)![]()
Huh? I can see how we might be looking at a bottom view instead of the top, but that doesn't justify all the space between the nacelle tips and the saucer.
Even though that "painted wooden toy" is still one of the top starship designs in all science fiction, even fifty years after it was introduced.
And ditched the moment they made a new version of the story, so not quite good enough apparently. And nostalgia makes people pine for anything, good and bad.
My only issue with the JJPrise is the proportions. It could've been exactly the same ship with the saucer & neck further forward and the nacelles further apart.
I would have to agree. I love the new films but hate the nuEnterprise. But if as you say, the neck didn't make the front end of the ship look like a duck, and if the nacelles were smaller, further apart and swept back like the refit, then maybe I could get behind it (oh, and also if the ship didn't constantly change size based on whatever day of the week it was, lol.)
With the JJprise I think a lot of people feel:
-The saucer is pretty good
-The neck is too far back
-The front of the nacelles are too bulbous
-The nacelles are too close together
I know there are other gripes, but I think the general consensus seems to be the above. Its a shame Justin Linn didn't address these, but chose to make some other modifications instead. Maybe those mods are reserved for a future Enterprise A.? We can only hope.
I find the major weakness with the JJprise, is that it looks amazing from some angles but awful from others. Similar to the D in that respect. (compare that to TMP Ent. which looked great however she was shot) Trouble is, you run out of good angles pretty quick. I guess this is why Linn chose to make the mods, and even use a fisheye effect. Wonder if he will address this at any time.
To clarify: that's the consensus among people who don't like the JJ-prise.I know there are other gripes, but I think the general consensus seems to be the above.
